Great Blu-Ray PLayer

I had been in the market for a new player after my previous DVR player (not Samsung) died. I was never really satisfied with the viewing quality or ease of use of that player so it was really important to find a player that was an improvement on those two qualities. After some research including posted and published reviews, I settled on the BD-P3600 and am glad I did.
From the beginning, this player has met or exceeded my expectations. Start with the hook-up/set-up which was incredibly easy as compared to my old DVR. With that one, I had to get assistance from my cable company so that the DVR was set-up properly to work with my tv and cable box. With the BD-P3600, set-up was complete in less than 10 minutes and we were sitting down to enjoy a movie.
Another great feature is the wireless connection that offers two excellent benefits: a) the ability to obtain and install software updates 'automatically', and b) the ability to connect to Netflix to rent movies via a quick download. As for the software updates, I have friends with Blu-Ray players that do not have a wireless connection, and they continually have issues with updates that must be downloaded from a computer, saved to a cd or flash drive and then installed to the Blu-Ray player. All of this is avoided with the wireless connection. As for Netflix, we've already downloaded a couple of movies in what is a very easy process.
The picture quality delivered through the BD-P3600 certainly is what I was looking for. Blu-Ray movies are outstanding on the HDTV and regular DVDs are significantly better than my previous player.
Overall, I highly recommend this Blu-Ray player for the picture quality, ease of set-up, ease of use and the added features available via the wireless functions.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Easy to set up and use. I don't have any blu-ray discs yet, but the picture quality is outstanding with regular DVD's. Before I got this I had a Samsung DVD player with the 1080p up-convert and the picture quality of regular DVD's with the blu-ray player is 100 times better. The wireless is easy to set up and movies and shows that are streamed from netflix to the unit load fast and have a great picture. I have had the player for about a week and have found no faults with the player.

Trying so hard to love it

When it works, I love it. But, unfortunately, it rarely works. I have to reset it several times a day. right now it won't play a DVD because none of the controls work except on and off, not on the remote or on the system itself. This is a known problem and the resolution is to reset it. I have already reset it 3 times today. Earlier I could not get audio on a Netflix streaming show - known issue as well so I reset the system. This happens every day. Frustrating. When it works it is great.

Player freezes up too often
on June 20, 2010

I purchased this player around Xmas 09 and have been generally happy with it. I really enjoy the Netflix and Pandora options, although this is as much because of Netflix and Pandora as it is the Samsung player. It has worked fairly well but I have had intermittent problems with the player freezing up during the initial load of discs and also intermittent problems with the player not responding to commands from the remote. I have kept the firmware up to date and I don't believe the fix is related solely to the firmware so I don't think the player will ever function correctly. I am going to buy a new player, most likely not from Samsung, and try my luck.

Nothing but problems. DVDs skip and the unit fails during use. I have sent it back with little success. The wireless works poorly also, it has to reload constantly while watching a show from any source. Do not buy this unit. I just want to get rid of this product.

Will not play through an entire movie
on July 2, 2009

This player is designed nicely with great features. Unfortunately the player will not complete a movie without the picture breaking up and ultimately freezing. I even downloaded this evening the newest firmware which did not help at all. Will have to buy another player if I ever want to watch a complete movie it seems.

A little more focus on todays technology

I wonder where my last review disappeared :) Here is it again. The device is good overall and supports common features. Unfortunately for the price tag I would expect a little more. The wireless implementation is not very reliable in particular with security features on. While he performance playing Bluray disks is excellent the device is sometimes chocking playing regular DVDs. What I missed most however, is the ability to stream multimedia content from a common network storage device like a NAS. The device can only handle streaming from a PC on the LAN except Internet Netflix. Finally, today's network multimedia devices support many additional features like a various selection of news, radio and video content. This device only supports Netflix (membership required) and Pandora. The technology is not limited but the firmware shipped with it. I can still recommend the device for those who do not need wireless, a variety of Internet services and access to a Network Attached Storage device.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not pleased

When watching a movie, if you pause the movie for longer than 5 minutes, a screen saver will pop up from the film. On this blue ray player you can't press pause or play to resume the film. You have to press stop and restart the entire movie over. Not a good feature.
