Doesn't shave close enough
on July 12, 2014

Verified Purchase:Yes
Cannot plug in without stand.
Hard to clean,
Does not shave close as did my old Norelco
I wish I still had my old one so I could give you the
Model but I dropped it and had to throw it out
All I remember is it had three shaving circles on
The three shaving heads
Pros: easy to hold, good flexibility
Cons: not a close shave

Great Shaver

I had to switch to an electric shaver due to Parkinson's Disease. It is very easy to use and the design is great. It gives me a shave about 95% as close as a razor. Very pleased.

Poor design, poor execution

After my perfectly adequate Philips 2100 shaver was stolen, I needed a replacement, and a man in a store persuaded me to purchase the 6100. I should have paid more attention as there are basic design problems I should have seen from just a cursory inspection, as well as some production/quality-control issues with this model.
Design issues:
The inability to shave with the shaver plugged into the power (in the event it runs out of charge) is limiting to a person on the go, who forgot to charge his machine, and needs to shave in an emergency. There are people who will see this as bad management on my part, but for me, it is a critical feature. Sometimes one forgets to charge and when that happens, one just wants to plug in and shave. I should have known this would be a problem from just looking at the box.
The trimmer, which works fine, is a separate unit. Easy to lose - just when you need it most. Perhaps this design allows a range of attachments, but if all you want is a regular shaver head and a trimmer, then there are better and less expensive designs.
Not sure if this is a design fault, but the changeable head snaps off far too easily. Let's call it a production/quality-control issue and discuss it there.
Production/quality control issues:
The membrane over the on-off button disintegrated after just 4 months of daily use. I see that others have complained about this. This is unacceptable. Quality control should have caught this and a tougher membrane should have been fitted.
The quality of the shave is uneven - worse than my earlier, simpler, and cheaper 2100. It misses out hairs just about everywhere. Couple this with the dodgy fit of the interchangeable head, and you get the following scenario. You are in a hurry to go to work and you are shaving, and the shaver is repeatedly leaving stubborn hairs. So you naturally (and perhaps unwisely) press a bit harder and bam! The head snaps off. The possible outcomes are as follows. 1) Least worst - the head falls to the floor, and casts your wonderful shaved stubble all over the place. So besides reattaching the head, you have a little cleaning job on your hands. 2) Next worst - the head falls to the floor and breaks apart, with blades, guards and other parts all going in different directions. So you have a cleaning job, and you need to reassemble the head, and then resume shaving. 3) Worst - when the head breaks up on impact, some of the components go where you cannot reach or even find them. You are now half shaven, out of time, and truly stuffed. No, sorry Philips, that attachment should have been made much firmer.
I wanted to like this machine, but it seems like it has some basic design flaws, and some serious quality issues.
I have since purchased the Philips 3500 - a simpler machine that just does the job. I am happy again.
Pros: it stays charged for a fairly long time
Cons: cannot be used uncharged directly from the mains, cover of on-off switch disintegrated after 4 month, head snaps off when pressing hard, charger is separate unit, does not shave well
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The 1150X gives a good shave. I have spot inder my chin line on my neck that I have a had time getting a close cut. Other that that I would buy this razor again.
Pros: relatively close shave.
Cons: sometimes hard to het the head off for cleaning., trimmer is not part of the razer.

This shaver does every thing that I hoped it would. I don't know what else you could do to improve on your shaver other than do my shaving for me. Thank you for a great product.

Poor shave
on June 17, 2012

This shaver would not provide a close shave and continuously irritated my skin. I used if for three months and by the end of each work week my skin was extremely sensitive from the use of the shaver. I used pre-shave and post-shave balm and it helped a little. The design is poor relative to cleaning the heads. The sideburn trimmer does not cut the hair. I finally dumped the shaver an purchased a foil razor (different brand) and my skin is great and I get a comfortable, close shave.
Pros: none
Cons: poor shave poor design for cleaning
