Great cooktop!

Interesting set of reviews here. Rees is the only person that actually nailed this cooktop......everyone else didn't take care of it properly (which isn't hard). We're on our second one of these cooktops.....but our fault completely. We dropped a heavy pot lid directly on the surface....of course it cracked. However, since our island requires a downdraft cooktop, we purchased a new one. Our old one was bought in 2006 (it's 2013 now) and still looked like new, despite VERY heavy use. The key is to clean it after every use...takes 2 minutes tops. Don't clean.....yeah, you're going to have a marred cooktop, plus a gross kitchen!

Good cooktop

Replaced our 13 yr old cooktop of the same make/model. That one had a broken control and was looking worn but otherwise gave us great service. While essentially the same, the new one is better made and many improvements made to controls. Installation was fairly straightforward

White GE Profile Cooktop

I purchased my GE cooktop several months ago to replace a broken downdraft cooktop manufactured by a competitor. My choices were limited due to the fact that I had to purchase one with downdraft ventilation because of the over the range cabinet placement. I'm very pleased that I selected the GE Profile! The cooktop is easy to clean and the ventilation works great. The ceramic top has no bulky framing and sits beautifully, almost flush, on my granite countertop. I use my cooktop daily and have found the rapid boil feature very convenient. This cooktop is far superior to the one it replaced and I would certainly purchase again!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Top is easy to chip...then crack

We've had the cook top for ~18 mo. My wife dropped a can of anti-stick spray, resulting in a small chip on the front edge. I purchased a ceramic repair kit to improve the appearance of the chip; but by the weekend, and similar to a car windshield, the chip progressed into a crack that extended through the middle of the left most heating element.
Reading other reviews, here and elsewhere, cracked cooktops are relatively common, forcing the purchase of an entire new unit.
Prior to this, we liked the cook top; it heated rapidly, though it has been challenging to keep clean, despite using ceramic cleaner after each use.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

great cook-top

I bought it 2 months ago as a replacement to the 10 years old GE glass cook-top. New device has almost everything the same besides it's not convertible to a grill any more, but I didn't use this feature anyway. Glass cook-top still requires almost everyday cleaning to have a nice look, but it was expected.

Difficult to clean!

Bought the black smooth top to replace old stove top! Installation fairly simple! After using just a few times there are scratches that won't buff out ! Very difficult to keep clean! Also needs special pans!
