I did a lot of research before I finally settled on the above Brother inkjet - to replace an older Lexmark - I am very happy with my choice! The printer is easy to use - and I am also very pleased with the Brother service - for the life of the machine!!!! The ink is easy to insert and I am looking forward to the longer life of the XXL cartridges. Price was reasonable - I do not use the fax. It took a little getting used to the different way of printing, but tech support is the best!
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have always purchased HP products. The only reason I purchased the Brothers printer is that I was told that brothers did not use a lot of ink in printing. This printer IS NOT USER FRIENDLY. It is too confusing to set up and use. Such as to print a letter address on an envelope I must reset the printer instead of just putting the envelope in the printer and press print just like the HP printers. It prints okay, nothing special.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I owned Brother printers before and , their great so i up graded to this and it works great , also the Brother support team is there for you if you run into problems. they can work you threw them. so far no problems. love the product. A++++++++

Price was Right

Did not realize that the Duplex feature (printing on both sides) was so complicated, and required such a laborious procedure each time double-sided printing was desired. Other-wise, acceptable for price.

Impressive Printer

After using this printer/scanner/fax for a couple of days I must say I am impressed by its performance. It was easily setup as a network device and I have printed from a Windows 8 tablet, an Android Cell Phone, and my Windows 7 PC, all wireless without problem. Envelop printing was a little confusing for orientation but once a trial print was made it was easy to correct. Scanning works great from the printer control screen where it can copy from the scanner and the scanner feed tray also worked just fine for multiple sheets. I found lots of capability and options available from the control software that was loaded on my PC along with the drivers. I particularly liked the two sided printing option which will save paper. Brother offers a lot of help from the internet and I still have much to learn about the full capabilities but so far this is one great all-in-one printer.

duplex printing

I bought this when my older model MFC went bad due to printhead problem. MFC-J5520 Setup is not difficult. I haven't used all features yet. So far I have used 2-sided print, which works fine. Haven't used 11x17 paper yet. Scanning is easy to use.

Unreliable

I have had this unit for a few months now. I had high expectations but it has a tendency to drop off the network for no reason. It also forgets my computer as a scan destination although nothing has changed (IP addresses, firewall settings, etc.). Rebooting the printer, computer, or both seems to help but not always.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
