Excellent

It is excellent, affordable, and not too bulky. I am a student and and I have a part-time business on the side. It is fast. THE ADF makes things simple, once you learn how to use it for duplex. The toner last a long time. like a year, so it is worth the extra money up front.

Have several, work very well

Print quality is excellent, ADF is reliable with Copy and FAX. Network scanning is not at all intuitive to setup, but works well once finally setup. Printing and fax are simple to setup for both the admin and the user. No network connectivity issues as long as one remembers to power cycle after changing settings. This is the 7th one of these I've installed, and all are working very well, with no service or quality issues. At this price, and with duplexing for print/copy/fax, I believe it is an excellent quality machine and a good value for a mid-volume workgroup in a very small package. Very happy, will buy more.
Pros: High Quality Output, fast print speed, durable, reliable, Easy Setup, easy to use, Small Footprint, very configurable
Cons: network scanning not easy to setup, musr power cycle when changing network settinggs

You can assume you will not be able to use the scanner because of the software. It is terrible, useless.

Wow!

Maybe its because I'm over sixty and have bought a dozen printers over 27 years, several fax machines and three scanners, but this was so easy to set up and use and the quality is amazing. My 13 year old Apple Laser Printer/Fax finally died, original purchase price $2900, but this tremendous value.
Pros: High Quality Output, fast print speed, durable, reliable, Easy Setup, easy to use, Small Footprint
I would recommend this to a friend!

Well Rounded, Affordable Option

I've had this for about a year now. We homeschool, so we use it a lot for school materials. It's great for all the reasons we wanted it for--mainly copying and printing. But the scanning leaves something to be desired. In particular, you have to use 3rd party software to scan to PDF, and the manual/Web site is by no means clear on that. There is apparently some software for this on the CD, but I lost it. So I had to scour the internet and found Scan2PDF as a freeware option--bare bones but it worked. (Specifically this is to scan over network.) BUT, at least it has a driver to support network scanning.
Anyways, apart from this, the machine is great. Would definitely recommend for the price/feature set.
Pros: reliable, durable, High Quality Output
Cons: Difficult Setup, lack of network scanning software

Yea it has a discent print quality and prints good, but won't scan anything for the life of me.. keeps telling me device is busy..don't know why and don't care to know at this point.. canon should have kept this is R&D much longer. This is not a device for people that are not very tecnologically savy

Crooked print
on January 20, 2011
Posted by: Anonymous
The features on this machine are good, except the major issue of the crooked printing. This occurs from the main paper drawer. If the bypass feed is used, it does not produce a crooked print. The bypass feed does not hold much paper, also if you leave paper in the bypass feed, the machine will not go to the sleep mode. I would consider this a home copier/fax, but not for an office that should have professional looking prints.
Pros: duplex printing but not duplex copying
Cons: crooked printing from main paper drawer
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
