Put it through it's paces -- great camera!

Over the last three months I have shot thousands of photos with my G10. Everything from landscape to nature to macro. From the beach to a studio setting. It has really performed well. I love enlarging photos to 20 inches with all the detail intact. I particularly like the exposure compensation knob to the left of the viewfinder -- what a great idea. The battery life has been nothing short of exceptional, never a worry.
Two quick things: It did take me a little while to get used to the "wide angle" of the macro, but now I love it. And I did need to use a wrist strap from an older Canon camera. The provided neck strap was much too large and always in the way. Oh, and I would love a remote shutter release!
Overall, a great piece of equipment.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, good battery life, durable

This is my second review on the G10 (I use Raw and JPEG-C1 for macro) because I want to reiterate the fact that the G10's DIGIC-4 technology provides you the best image quality in all respects that requires the absolute minimal image editor software editing to make it appear as you prefer without having to reinvent the wheel with Lightroom, Photoshop, etc, the included software is all you need. Suggest you all also read the great instruction booklet inconjuction with your G10 to get the great results advertised by Canon; you too can be as great as the Canon G10.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, great instruction booklet, great image editting software included, compatible with canon speedlites
Cons: none

best non-SLR of All-Time

Canon's G10 is a crowning achievement of engineering and design--seriously. Under all but the most taxing of conditions the G10 outperforms most SLRs. I shoot a 40D and love it, but you can't beat the ease and versatility of this phat p&s. I upgraded from the G7--a masterpiece in it's own right--and the key upgraded features perform as advertised. The 28mm lens approaches SLR territory and the new Digic IV processor can handle any load you can throw at it. Exposure compensation is via a manual wheel--very, very cool. The ISO shift function is a very welcome change and the 3" LCD screen is sharper than any I have ever seen. This thing is a weapon in the hands of a competent photographer. Oh, and did I say it shoots in RAW?! IMHO this thing is under-priced.

I went from the G7 through the G10 in upgrades, but primarily for the quality in stll photography from the RAW format and the convinience; in this respect, I am totally satisfied. I also use the convinient compatible software with great results and the instruction booklet is great. In addition, I get great results with my G10 and my 580EX II Speedlite.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, portable, good battery life, durable, great instruction booklet, great software, image keeper oriented camera, raw format, compatible with 580ex ii
Cons: none

Wow! Best describes this camera

I moved up from a Digital Elph which was the best camera I ever used. I didn't want an SLR with all of the lenses because I would never have it with me. The G10 is small enough to take with you and it has an incredibly deep feature set.
After a few weeks, I continue to be impressed by every picture it takes. The detail, the color, the ability to crop the picture all make it a great camera.
If you are a casual user set it on Auto and it takes great pictures or you can adjusts dials until you are satisfied.
It is heavy, but that is a reasonable trade-off compared to a full SLR.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, good battery life
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Great Mid-Sized Camera

The G10 had most of the features I'd had on my previous camera that was stolen. I wanted a viewfinder & a screen. I wanted the viewfinder to be non-digital; I wanted to be able to turn off the flash; macro shots and I wanted quality. I am very pleased with the special shots esp. beach & foliage. When I combine foliage with the zoom, I've been able to get some really nice close-up Macro shots. What I don't like is that the Flash Off setting does not stay put when I turn off the camera. When I'm on hikes or taking indoor family shots, it's frustrating to have to turn the flash off each time. I recently took some shots under fluorescent lights but didn't know the setting to change to to accomplish that. I like having a variety of other options. I can't wait to try some more. I like the size, weight, neck strap & movie feature: I'd never buy a movie camera. Overall, it'a an excellent all-in-one camera. DH has an SLR but I only like that for a long zoom.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu
Cons: flash off doesn't stay put when turned off

My 4th powershot

I love this camera! I had an A60 two cameras ago, and the G10 reminds me of it, but in a way better way. I really like the control I can have over my images. My last camera was a digital elph--fun and small, but too automatic. This is a great camera for people who like to tinker, people who read the user manual front to back, people who customize their camera's sounds and startup image, and people who want to make great prints.
The wide lens is fun too. I definitely appreciate its versatility, and macro detail is spectacular. I use all of the dials and buttons on it. If you want to just push a button and take a picture, then this isn't the camera for you.
I'm super happy with my purchase, and will hang on to this camera until it's dead.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, good battery life, durable
Cons: Difficult to use, Complicated controls/menu, Heavy/Bulky
