G10 Rocks!
on February 13, 2009

With its great build quality and design, the G10 was an excellent upgrade from a five-year-old S50. Image quality is very good, especially when shooting RAW, and the 28-140 mm zoom range covers most of my needs. The camera produces outstanding close-ups and good, sharp images at all focal lengths. Impressive battery life is major plus offering the capability to produce more RAW image files than I normally have time to take in a photo outing. The biggest drawback to using the G10, in my estimation, is the DPP software.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, good battery life, durable, excellent build quality
Cons: digital photo pro is clumsy compared to photoshop

After using my G10 for two months, I feel that I am still at an early point on the learning curve with it. It is great for taking pics of my pottery and cactus collection hobbies.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance

Got it as a Gift - Best Gift Ever!

Just received the PowerShot G10 as a gift and took it with me on a family vacation to Aruba. I didn't have time to read the instruction book -- too busy packing! But, the ease of operation enabled me to take incredible pictures of my granddaughter and family ... as well as the beautiful scenery of Aruba.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

14.MB Raw is the good feature

I have used my G10 for two months. The lens is as good as the SD880 I have but the Raw process was key. The total manual is good but slow to change. the outside controls turn too easily so they get accidentally changed - some times with very bad results. I do not have it show images after shots because it slows things down. The Movie/video feature does not allow changing zoom while recording and the focus is fixed. The builtin flash is only good with fillin and the hot shoe should be planned on using. The IS is just as good as the SD880. The software with the camera is not great and expect to use another product for CR2-Raw conversion. The +/- control is way too easy to change -yes you can have the display show the setting but that is in the way of the framing image. I can not give up on carrying a big SLR for real quality. Expect to carry one charged battery for each 2G images.
Pros: Simple controls/menu, raw images good
Cons: Short battery life, too easy to bump setting
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great back up to Mark II
on February 13, 2009

I bought this camera as a convenient back up to my new Mark II. It served the purpose just fine, thank you! My only complaint is with ISO 800 + , for low light situations, images had much noise. I use a noise reducing plug in for CS3 so was able to neutralize most of the noise. Recent trip to Mexico with just the 10 went ok [ recent surgery on my hand so was afraid of dropping my Mark II] but, I must say every day I found myself wishing I had brought the Mark II. I believe the two cameras work very well together.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, iso speeds @ 800 + resulted in much noise!
