Great for 4 years but....

My G10 was the best digital camera I ever owned. No issues nor complain until after 3 years of heavy use. The retractable lens cover started rubbing against the lens and left a scratch visible in the pictures. Got that fixed by the factory for a reasonable cost. A year later, the upper left corner of the pics show dark clouds that are bad enough that it shows on all the pics, unless it is a dark background.
i have used the camera heavily @ 3000 pics a month. Not sure if the camera was built to withstand such usage. For the cost of getting repaired and the price of a new one, I chose to buy a new camera with the latest technology, warranty and possibly more durable.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, good ergonomics
Cons: don't have long term durability
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love this camera! i am begining to get into digital photography and was looking at this or a low end DSLR. i chose this because of it's size and features. I really love how i am able to use the manual controls and RAW to get great looking pics. i use my camera soooo much since it is very portable. Have two kids and in two months i have tons of high quality shots of family time. The camera's features allow me to develope my skills as a photographer at a more economical price. The camera doesn't produce as high a quality image at the higher ISO's and your zoom is limited, however the wide angle lens is great! Wonderful for landscape shots. Look for it on sale even with the features it can be a bit pricy...
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance

Canon G10

I have owned Canon Gs for many years, a G3 G5 G7 and now the G10. And I can say the G10 is the best focusing with the best picture color quality. It focus's quickly even at full zoom. It has a small shutter lag as all P&S digital camera have. But if one uses the continuous focus it really improves this small problem. I highly recommend Canons new G10 and I feel you can't go wrong buying this quality digital Canon camera.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

Not quite 5star

Camera is excellent and has all the functions almost anyone would want. To download images directly to the computer is almost impossible. Therefore, having to remove the memory card each time is a real disadvantage. Canon software and support is not excellent quality. For that reason I can only give a four star rating overall.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, software
I would recommend this to a friend!

Happier with this camera than any I have ever had

This is the camera I always take with me. Small enough so it doesn't stay at home but still takes high enough quality images and offers enough features to handle 95% of what I want to do. I fell off a mountain, landed on this camera and it still works fine. I love it.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, durable, easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

I replaced a similar but much older Canon G with this amazing camera. I have always enjoyed using fine cameras- a good analogy would be "like driving a Porsche" when you have a really well made camera, and the G10 does deliver this. I am a retired professional and still do a few jobs, but this was to be my carry-around camera because the DSLRs are just too big. Everything in the G10 was an upgrade of my old one--until I got it outside and wanted to shoot some nice clouds with a blue sky. I held the camera up to my face- My old camera had an adjustable view screen and normally I would hold the camera at my waist, taking photos without attracting a lot of attention. But the G10 has lost this feature and the first time I pointed it up at the sky, someone across the street screamed "HE'S GOT A CAMERA!" ---I visited the library to do some research work and brought my G10. I needed to make reference copies of several locomotive diagrams from a research book.. I got permission to use my camera without flash. I have a small folding table tripod, and when I set my camera up I saw that the screen faces up towards the ceiling, and I could not view the book unless I climbed up on a chair- this is not an approved activity in my local library so I postponed the photos until I could borrow another camera with an adjustable view screen.
Sometimes, I like to create photos using dramatic low angles. Again, I used to be able to just look down into the movable screen with the camera almost at ground level. Now I would have to lie flat on the ground to view the subject. --- Probably the single most useful feature developed for digital cameras-the adjustable screen has now been removed from virtually all of them, and nobody seems to miss it. This is called progress I guess.-----If you don't need the movable screen, this is a great camera. I replaced my G10 with an older camera that has the movable screen--at least I can use the camera. Sorry Canon, it is my opinion that you really blew it when you removed the adjustable view screen. Please consider that this is a very important feature for me in the following pros and cons, because otherwise this is a heck of a camera.

Great Camera

I've had my G10 since Christmas 08 and love it. It fits in my pocket and shoot in RAW format which what can I say is fantastic. My only regret is that the monitor on the back of the camera doesn't swing out and swivel. All the knobs that I use regularly are easy to get at like iso, flash and movie mode. My son plays baseball for his HS and I'm able to switch between RAW and Movie Mode with the turn of the knob. The battery seems to have pretty long life between charges. I'd recommend getting the ac connection for downloading images/movies to the computer. This is more dependable than using the camera battery.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
