I got this camera to replace my D10 as it is too hard to carry along with you on trips and outings. So far it has done very very well in exceeding my expectations.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bought it to replace a G7 as a second camera for times you don't want to lug a DSLR but need good pictures. Can carry it all day and never know its on your shoulder. Much improved processor and increase in pixels shows. Time lag annoying, causes missed shots if you're used to a good DSLR. Viewfinder, which I prefer to LCD, next to useless unless you use it like the wire sport finders on the old Speed Graphics. Stacked dials awkward but nice to have the addition of exposure compensation. Minimum reference to menus needed when shooting because of the dials. We need to return to dials.
Recommend a Canon 220EX flash.
Pros: easy to use, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, durable, can be absolutely silent
Cons: squinty viewfinder, shutter lag, no lens hood available
I would recommend this to a friend!

Canon G10 experience

Overall, this is a very nice camera, especially for the price. The controls are easy to use and the overall set up is intuitive. I like the size and it handles well. I have mainly used a rangefinder camera and, when deciding to go digital, i did not want to use the rather larger SLRs. My main disappointment with the camera is the viewfinder. A 77% viewfinder is, for me, like not having one. Composition is what taking photos is all about--for me--so not having a 100% viewfinder is a serious issue. I don't particularly care for having to always compose using the LCD screen. My hope is that Canon will develop an accessory 100% viewfinder to attach to the flash shoe or maybe they will correct with a subsequent model. Otherwise, a nice camera, especially if viewfinders are not important. I have a professional photographer friend who wanted to buy this camera, the G10, but when she heard from me about the viewfinder, she was no longer that interested.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: poorly designed viewfinder

My second digital camera. I'm a beginning photog, at best. The idiot proof aspect is great. I'm starting to try the advanced features. Thusfar, I've used the movie function most of the time on my golf swing. The editing features could be easier, but are ok. I'd recommend the g10 to any beginner
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: Complicated controls/menu

I am an amatuer who wanted the capabilities of a SLR, but the convenience of a point and shoot. It fits all those requirements. I am still learning to use all the features. The battery lasted close to 350 pictures on its first charge. Some of the outdoor, bright mountain and desert pictures appeared overexposed, so I am working to check that out. At this point I can't tell a quality difference with my previous Powershot A700, but feel confident that I will be able to do more in the future.
Pros: exposure controls
Cons: price

Performance issues

Don't get my wrong, this camera shoots beautiful pictures, but this kind of quality only appears when your shooting under certain conditions. In terms of low-light shooting, this camera is sub-par to say the least. But is that's the only thing keeping you from buying the camera, i would bet that you would be disappointed by most compacts out today
Pros: Bright LCD, excellent image quality, good battery life, durable, construction
Cons: Difficult to use, Poor Low-Light Performance
