THE WORTHY HIGH QUALITY COMPACT DIGITAL CAMERA!
on November 1, 2008

HAVING SOUGHT THE IDEAL COMPACT DIGITAL CAMERA FOR MANY MONTHS, AS A "BRING ANYWHERE" COMPANION TO MY DSLR, I WAS DELIGHTED TO REVIEW THE PRESS RELEASE ON THE G10. THIS ONE HAS EVERYTHING I WANT, NEED, AND MORE.
FEATURES, QUALITY, AND PERFORMANCE ABOUND. THE MANUALLY ADJUSTABLE FEATURES, THE USE OF HERETOFORE CONVENTIONAL DIALS FOR COMMONLY USED SETTINGS, GREAT PERFORMANCE ESPECIALLY AT MY MOST OFTEN USED 100 AND 200 SETTINGS, VERY EFFECTIVE IS, A TRULY WIDE TO TELE ZOOM RANGE WITH LITTLE LOSS IN LENS APERTURE, RAW, AND A REALLY USEFUL AND HIGH QUALITY MACRO RANGE, MADE THE G10 A "MUST HAVE" CAMERA FOR ME.
AN OPTICAL VIEWFINDER, AND A BUILT IN AND USEFUL FLASH WHICH ARE MISSING ON SOME HIGHER PRICED CAMERAS SEALED THE PURCHASE.
OF COURSE, P, AND AUTO WILL SATISFY MOST USERS WITH LITTLE OR NO EFFORT ON THEIR PART.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 5 STARS. WELL DONE!
ROG.
Pros: everything
Cons: none

I would recommend this canon to anyone that is looking for a semi-pro picture at home. It makes your picture more defined in everyway. you memories will last in higher ways. the quality is the best I could ever want and need. It captures even the fastest child, in my home anyway.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

Best compact camera to date!

If you are interested in a compact camera that can be a substitute for an SLR, this camera is it. It has all of the auto settings to allow anyone in the family to take superb photos without having to tinker with the dials and settings. However, an advanced user will appreciate the full manual controls and the ability to shoot RAW.
Bottom line...This thing has better photo quality than most low end SLR cameras on the market today.
BUY IT!
Pros: Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life, durable

Great Camera
on February 24, 2009

The first day I took Macro Pictures of insects and bugs. You can literally get the camera about half an inch from the subject you are taking pictures of, and the camera will focus accurately. With 15 MP I was able to zoom in and see the detail of the surface of the skin of bugs, stigma and petals of flowers less than a 1/4 of an inch. At night I used a tripod and a 15" aperture to take pictures of the sky. I was able to take pictures of MANY stars I could not see with the naked eye. I am still learning about photography but I can say this is a great camera for an enthusiast or amateur. You will be able to learn how to control the settings, while you still have a full Automatic, Portable, Point and Shoot camera on your hands. The only thing I would have asked for was a better optical Zoom, maybe 10 to 12x like the SX200 IS. Or maybe a 20x zoom like SX10 IS and SX1 IS, but with the 14.7MP. Yet I am very satisfied with the product, but looking forward to buy a 3.5x Telephoto adapter for this one.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, long time for first picture with flash.

G10
on November 12, 2008

First, I have several Canon Cameras with this brief listing: EOS Rebel, EOS Rebel ET, Powershots A550, A570, A59, S1000IS, SX-110IS. I had looked at and handled a G9 in a few retail stores and I liked the old camera feel of the G9. When I saw the G10 was available I jumped and bought it. I am still learning all I can do but it follows the operating pattern of my other Canons so it is easy to learn, with some challenges in new features. I have read reviews on the G9 and I wish a few things had not been omitted. It is easy to use for quick shots with urgency and without planning but also provides many tools to improve basic shots. I like to photograph sunsets and my last three Canon cameras have been equipped with the scene function and a choice for sunsets. I like the 3200 ISO under scenes as well and I tend to leave that feature selected for sudden shifts to scene for poor lighting. Given time, I suspect I will return and add more here. In the meantime, I am just using the camera as my main quick camera for those shots I hate to miss because I did not have a camera with me.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, portable, good battery life, durable
