G10 for Underwater

This is an outstanding camera! The image quality is fantastic and the controls are easy to access. I upgraded from a G7 and was especially glad to see exposure control now a dial instead of a menu selection. I use the underwater housing extensively. This takes great shots in good lighting. Not so good at High ISO low light. Very noisy at anything over ISO 400 with little to be done to control it. So far the best non-SLR camera I've used both above and below the water.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, great underwater
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance

Please stop saying "it's just like my SLR"

It's pretty annoying. The G10 is a point and shoot (rangefinder) with some manual features. It does not have replaceable lenses (other than a couple secondary lenses.) Not only is the architecture completely different it does not come close to the performance to a decent SLR.
I have owned several G series power shots (along with multiple canon digital and film SLR bodies) and even though I enjoy this one the most, because of the manual controls, I find the low light performance really lacking. Even my Powershot G3 did a MUCH better job with existing light photography. This is disappointing and anything above ISO 400 is pretty much unusable.
Also, what happened to the smaller aperture like F/16 and F/32? I don't understand this? F/2.8 is nice at the wide angle but it's nice to shoot at a higher aperture with long exposures. A range of F2.8 - F8 just says canon was not very serious about making a good prosumer camera.
Other than these two flaws (in my book) this is a great day to day/travel camera. Compact with a lot of features and the manual controls are great. Really good movie mode and the wide angle is fantastic. The wide angle is what sold me.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, nice manual controls, very solid construction
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, nothing higher than f/8!?!?

Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

I had several SLR film cameras, Contaxt G1-G2, Olympus E1 (Great) and G9 NOW the G10. The best compliment is to equate it to a Contax G2 with Zeiss lens-the pictures are outstanding.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, portable, good battery life, durable

I really like this camera, it has a solid feel and looks like another quality Canon camera. I decided to get the G10 because I wanted to be a little more in control of the images I wanted to take. I upgraded to the G10 after using another Canon product, a pocket sized Power Shot, I can't remember the model. I travel for a living and a full size SLR is to much for me to take along so the G10 was a perfect choice. I was able to use the camera with out much reference to to the manual since it was similar to my earlier Canon Power Shot.
It would be nice to have a long exposure feature and a GPS tag for the photos I take.

This is a exstreamly reliable camera. The menu are easy to use if you have worked with the Canon DSLR camera. This camera is a great addition for me for my field work.
For amateur user, this is a great camera to begin with. It has all the features of the professional DSLR, as well as easy to use basic features. Menus are streight forward and easy to understand. If you want to become a professional photographer and want to learn how to take photos like the pros, but don't want to spend the money for a DSLR camera yet, I recommend the PowerShot G10.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: no manf. carring case

Good Choice

The G10 is my first digital camera purchase and I am quite pleased with it. Since I was new to digital photography, it was originally used as a point-and-shoot camera and performed admirably. Very little is lost when using the zoom feature. The images are great and the software is easy to set up and use. The editing feature included in the software is novice friendly. Be prepared to do some homework if you are unfamiliar with the features. The camera has many settings that improve the quality once you know how to use them. Even though I have had it for some time, there are still many features that I am unfamiliar with, so the poor low-light performance is probably my fault. Overall, I am quite happy with the results and would recommend this camera to anyone.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, good battery life
