By far, best camera for the money

I hate to admit it, but I turned 40 this year! Still feel like a 16 year old. I have a BFA from Parsons School of Design, and like Pacino said in Scent of a Woman, "I've been around, ya' know.....". So let me say this, back in the day, pre digital, the best cameras of the 35mm sort were first Leica, then Contax (with Zeiss lenses), then Nikon, then Canon. Now.... Canon reigns superior! I have the 50D, I would buy some of the more expensive cams but photography for me is creative, and not my living. If it were, I would buy the more expensive models. My cousin (David Gunn) shoots with the best Canon cams/lenses. I only buy Canon lenses! Life is short, people! Don't stray from the best!
I did a X-mas shoot, which I do every year for friends and clients, for free. I decided to buy the 50D, I had the 40D last year. And the quality difference is similar to the difference btw AM and FM radio. The 50D is superior in image quality, otherwise, the cameras are similar. But being that I love to blow the pix up (usually using mpix), the 50D definitely is far superior. It is like shooting with a Hasselblad. Now I have to spend the money on retouching b/c the 50D shows everything. Normally this is amazing, but with older people's wrinkles and skin problems etc. I need retouching (with mpix they do it for a very small increase in pic price! It's totally worth it!).
If you have the money buy their best cam, otherwise, the 50D should satisfy anyone's needs, including pro photographers! Canon wins! Hands down, they beat out all of the competition!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, price of 50d is a quarter of what it is worth!

I've only had this camera for a few weeks but I am very impressed with it's ease of use. I was concerned about it's complexity as I am not an expert but using the cameras controls over picture taking has been easy to learn and use.
Pros: Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time

I love the snug feel of this camera. Very solid and nice weight to this camera. Easy operation. The fact that Canon did not add video to this camera is fantastic. I love using the traditional viewfinder to compose my shot's and having the display blacked during shooting is great. I can shoot in virtual darkness which amazes me.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: none

The Best In This Price Range

I have had this camera for over a year now and love it. I am a long time fan of Canon cameras. In fact, my old Canon A-1 is still in excellent condition, after over 20 years of faithful service (it has never been repaired).
The 50D is amazing. With the right lens, it takes excellent low light photos (not quite as good as my 7D, but close), beautiful landscapes, and high quality portraits. It is solidly built, fast focusing, and easy to handle (for a DSLR). It is supposed to be the backup for my 7D, but I find myself using it as much as the 7D.
I don't think you can find a better camera in this price range.
Cons: no video

Great DSLR for anybody

So the 50D is a great camera PERIOD! It dosent matter if you are a pro or an amatuer. I bought this camera for a few reasons. 1) 15mp. great for high quality prints, and can crop a picture and still have great results. 2) high burst reate. the 6.5 fps is great for sports, and anything else such as children playing or pets, you'll always capture that moment. 3) good build quality. This is a SOLID camera. It dosnt feel cheap or plasticy like the rebel series. The 50D can take some abuse and keep on keepin. 4) the low light performance is great. I can use up to 1600 ISO sometimes 3200 and still get great results.
I would definanly recommend this to anybody. I will say this though to get the most out of this camera, or any dslr you need to invest in good quality lenses. So take that into consideration when buying. This camera dosen't do video wich isnt a big deal for me, but if thats a deal breaker look at the t3i, 60D, or the 7D.
One final note. This is a great camera, but my friend has a 40D, and it isnt really that much of a differince. everything is basically the same except the 50D has 5 more megapixels, and a better screen. so if you want agood camera like this but want to save a little money look at the 40D.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, fast burst rate

This camera is awesome, I take sport and dance pictures and have always had problems with digital cameras, due to the delay inherent in most. With the 6 frames/second I now do not miss any of the shots I really want and need.
Make sure if you are using a lot of continous shooting to get a 60 or at least 30 mb transfer rated CF card. Never thought sport photography could be this much fun and be this good. I use the 28-135 and 70-300mm lens and just love the AF and lens and camera stabilization. The shots are clear and color balance is also very good.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Solid and sophisticated

The 50D feels great in your hands...rock solid...but heavy with a big lens. Controls are well laid out and menu navigation is relatively easy. Picture quality is great but need a high quality lens to take advantage of the greater resolution. 14bit a/d color conversion gives smooth color rendition. Good image noise control at high ISO.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD

Great camera!

I am totally satisfied with this camera. I think they are making an understatement when they say that it "bridges the gap between ametuer and pro." The 50d can definetly be used for professional photography. As soon as I hefted this camera, I knew it was solid, and built well, and also it is very comfortable. The battery lasts quite a while, and aren't as expensive as one would think. The fps burst rate is incredibly fast as well. I would recommend this camera to the ametuer going pro, or even the seasoned pro would needs a smaller aps c sized camera as a back up rather than dragging those huge full frames around.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, can use my old lenses., very fast both fps and in camera operation!, fast learning curve especially from old 35mm.
Cons: no video
