Except for differential features, I LOVE IT!!! I just got it last night, and today I went out and took about 700 photos of various items/nature/animal/people. The quality, performance, battery life, everything about it is great!
Before this camera I had Canon EOS xs, basic, and that camera took me lots of places, so 50D was just one of the BIG BOYS I dealt with. I'm so in love with this camera!
Pros: bigger screen, nice grip, battery life, outstanding photo quality., fast shutter speed, excellent features., my lenses from canon xs fits perfectly., i could go on but it's dinner time.
Cons: santa clause didn't give it to me sooner.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent Camera

I have been upgrading cameras from the 30D to the 40D and I now own a 5D and the 50D. I have to say the features, upgrades and overall quality of my photos have improved from the 40D, to the new 50D.
It offers the sharpest photos, VERY, VERY, VERY low noise, and is incredibly FAST to operate. Easier to use than the 40D, especially the one touch "Live View" function.
Another GREAT upgrade is the fact it is a 15.1 MGP camera. Even shooting JPEG, you collect huge amounts of data from which you can work through Photoshop, and other applications. Shooting in RAW is such a pleasure as well. Again, you get huge amounts of data.
This is a great second camera for a pro, or a wonderful "Only" camera for a serious amateur. It is much more powerful than any of the Rebels, and equally simple to use. The power coupled with high Megapixel count makes the 50D a much better choice than a Rebel. The ever growing number of reasonably priced lenses, and other accessories, adds to the long list of reasons this Canon a better choice than any other competitor in the same price range.
Lastly, having owned several Canon DSLR camera bodies and an even larger number of lenses, I continue to be impressed by the usable innovations for relatively affordable prices offered by Canon on an on-going basis.
Buy this camera, I do not believe you could go wrong when selecting a Canon 50D.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life, huge selection of lenses, uses same grip as 30/40d, uses same batteries and data card as 5/30/40ds

2nd DSLR

This is my second DSLR. I have owned the EOS 20D for several years, but decided I wanted a second camera. I chose the EOS 50D for several reasons. It has been given very good reviews and it was similar to the 20D. I did not choose the EOS 7D because I already have a Canon Camcorder. The 50D gives me greater photography options and a chance to increase my knowledge. I look forward to many years of use taking pictures of my granddaughter and nature photographs.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: heavier but worth it.

awesome camera

I can't find one thing I don't like about this camera except for the frame where the histogram is viewed. If there was a small frame around the outside of the histogram frame you could better tell how close you were to clipping the edges. It's hard to tell how close you are to the edge in most light, but otherwise, it's an awesome camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: histogram area needs a frame around the outside

Canon EOS 50D

I got this camera basically to replace my 20D. Sensor megapixel is doubled and now I don't have much problem cropping the photo. It still have enough pixels so that image doesn't get pixelated. Of course LCD screen is much bigger. ISO performance is also much improved. Higher ISOs are still noisy but they are usable. I've read that some people mentioned about getting the magenta cast on the photo, and colors are flat. I've noticed those things on some of my photos, too. But those can be corrected at the post production. One thing that bothered me, though, was when I shot outdoor in a sunny day, highlights got blown out pretty badly, especially in light color objects. Even though Highlight Tone Priority function comes handy in those situations, they were pretty ugly noticeable. I've never noticed it with 20D. Also the body is bigger and bulkier. Almost (not quite but) as big as 5D Mark II. That spoils advantage of having an 1.6x crop sensor. I bought 50D over new 60D because its magnesium alloy body and use a CF card, and over 7D because the price is almost a half. Continuous shooting buffer is awesome. 6.3fps. That's 1fps more than 60D and 1.7fps less than 7D. 15 megapixel is plenty enough for most of works. It also has a micro adjustment for lenses and all the other functions which 20D didn't have. So far I like this camera. I think it's got great value for what it is.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, fast focus, image quality
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, highlight clipping in a normal setting

Excellent Upgrade

Upgrade from XTI which is a wonderful camera. The resolution and high ISO performance for the 50D are wonderful. I takes a while to learn all of the functions available, but expands one's photographic options dramatically. I had some reservations about this camera given the cost, but I am glad I plunged ahead and got it.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Solid Operation, good battery life, high iso performance
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, relatively long learning curve
