I love this camera! Upgraded from the Rebel Xti and I'm glad I did. This camera gives me much more room to grow as a budding photographer. I didn't think that the increase in the fps from the Rebel Xti would be that big of a deal until I took pictures of my son's baseball game. Now I'm the official team photographer. Be sure that you have the lenses that can keep with this camera and you will not be disappointed.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
Cons: none so far
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This products quality and operability make it an excellent choice for any photographer searching for a camera in the medium price range. I took over a thousand shots within the first 28hrs of buying it without any problems or reading any manuals. Advanced users will not be disappointed. It contains the necessary features that allow for almost any personalization to fit almost any situation. ENJOY!

Canon EOS 50D outperforms the "pro reviews' and digital camera article reviews alike. This camera just gets the photo correct! It is quick to focus, meter and it is simple enough when you first buy it to make you look like a pro until you learn the system. Canon has become the GO TO camera for rookies and the seasoned photographer alike. The Canon Digital pro cameras are the stuff of legend, on any sideline or floor! Don't think the Canon 50D is an underachiever, it is in a highly expected class and it stuns!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use, i have the shot when they are still looking!
Cons: absolutely none; are you kidding?!

I purchased a 50D on the reccomendation of a close friend and I am enthusiastically satsfied. For starters, the body is built like a tank. This is a camera that will withstand harsh shooting environments. The 15.5 megapixel processor is fine for any normal-sized print up to and including poster size. The display on the back is fast and stays incredibly clean. Smudges just wipe off with a soft cloth. Don't use paper though, it will scratch the screen. The 50D also shoots fast enough for fast-moving events. The body is wrapped in a rubber compound that makes dropping the camera all but inpossible. The 60D has come out recently and I could have waited. But I don't care for the tilt-out screen on the D60 and the D50 actually has a higher burst rate. Lastly this is a professional's SLR. Regardless of your shooting style, the features and build of this SLR are more than any professional photographer could expect. It's just a great camera.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, heavy duty chasis, great ergonomics
Cons: the standard batter is a bit short, the 60d may eclipse the 50d

Canon in Scotland
on November 9, 2009

My wife and I made our first trip ever out of the USA to our ancetoral homeland, Scotland. I took with me two cameras: a Canon 40D and purchased for the trip a Canon 50D. I also had a Canon 70-200mm zoom lens for the 50D and a 35-70zoom for the 40D. Over a three week period of time using the two cameras I took over 3500 photos. I was overwelmed with the ability of the 50D to handle all kinds of lighting conditions in all kinds of weather. A long time user of Canon film cameras (I have four bodies) I can not express, adequately, how impressed I was with my Canon digital cameras on this trip. I have now taken over 400 shots with each of the cameras and can only say- Canon is the best camera out there for the money.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

My first time...

After reading a lot of reviews and a lot of shopping on the internet and in stores, I finally decided on the Canon 50D. I think this camera is the easiest to use, including the point and shoots I have owned; G9, G10, G11 and SX10IS. I am a huge Canon fan and cannot wait to use my new 50D on assignment in Japan, Korea, Philippines, Vietnam and China. It will be a long while before I consider purchasing another camera, unless I win lotto so I can afford the absolute top of the Canon range. I do wish Canon would include HD Video in all future cameras.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

So far best camera i ever bought

This was my first SLR camera in years ,,the last one I owned was a film camera " what a change of life " before I bought the 50D I owned the canon G9 point and shoot great camera, but I got into it so much that I needed more . I chose the canon because of the menu " going from a canon to a canon helped a lot,, much easier transition" . I have only used this camera on automatic and i love it I cant wait to take a class on digital photography and learn how to use this camera the right way . The controls and menu are easy to use after a little practise , large very clear LCD screen ,feels great in my hands, a little bit bulky and heavy at first the "18 - 270 mm lens does not help the weight problem , but it sure helps all the pictures I take" but you get used to it, even transitioning from such a small camera like I did. I wear glasses so the eye piece is hard to work with at times , but I will buy an extension I read it works great . Don't understand why they put the " ON - OFF " switch where they did, hard to work with . But overall amazing camera worth every dollar i don't think i will ever need to buy another camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky
