Not worth the upgrade

I find that it's not a significant upgrade to the 40D. Yes it has a few feature upgrades but it's really nothing new. To me more megapixels are not a reason to upgrade. I would have like to see an upgrade to the autofocus system. I really don't see any higher iso image quality from the 40D. HI ISO is totally unusable. I think the best deal is the 40D now that the price is dropping.
Pros: Bright LCD, Quick Start-up time, easy to use
Cons: Poor image quality, Missing features/settings, noisy

Outstanding Camera Body

50D is a worthy successor to 40D. Better processor, in my view.
Pros: more mp, larger lcd, better controls
Cons: live view is not really needed, new auto adjustment button not really needed

great camera

solid, high quality workmanship; technologically advanced; excellent image quality. Thoughtfully designed for ease of use. This is my first Canon, and within minutes I understood most all the controls. It is not a lighweight, however. Be prepared to handle the extra weight.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Quick Start-up time
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Canon 50D

I replaced my Digital Rebel with the Canon 50D, which was a long time waiting. I have been taking photos for over 30 years--going from film to digital--total transformation. The Canon 50D exceeded my expectations and over-whelmed with its quality and features. I am like a kid at Christmas again. Thank you Canon.

I love this DSLR however

I love the quality and the image sharpness of this camera, be aware that your lens attached to this camera will also affect the image quality of your photos. I love this camera I own the 20D and the photos are night and day comparing them side by side. The only thing I don't like is that the sensor needs cleaning constantly, Canon need to come up with a camera that is weather hardy. Be aware you will spend a lot of money having this camera cleaned by a registered Canon provider. If you are prepared for that buy this camera it is awesome to use for a educated photographer. Lenses though are a plus choose your lenses carefully, this camera can only do so much. It is an expensive hobby and know that going into it however, I do love this camera and the excellent semi pro features it provides.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, good battery life
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, Slow Start-up time, Difficult to use, Heavy/Bulky

A remarkale camera! Superb images and very versatile. Built solidly too. H1 and H2 very useful for record shots... a winner by Canon.

I have owned a 300D, 20D, 30D, Rebel XT, and now the 50D. This is a great camera, although it maybe a bit much for beginner or novice user but for the intermediate to the advance user it's a great fit. I love the speed and start-up time.
Pros: speed, start-up time, self-cleaning sensor
Cons: raw files not fully supported by adobe lr1.4

I recently invested good money on a camera and five months of research. Do not get intimadated with the manual. Most of the features are equivalent to the auto focus. The quality of the images are amazing. The best lens to buy is the 18-200mm. This model is everything one would want in a camera

Cons: Short battery life
