Delighted !

I shoot High School sports including indoors & outdoors.I was using a 40D w/ 50mm 1.8 lens which I was very happy with. Decided to buy the 50D w/28-135 lens kit. Intended to use the lens mainly for outdoor sports. However, I decided to try it with flash at the basketball game. The results are amazing! I cannot 'outrun' the ultrasonic focus. Every shot in focus. That was not the case previously. Camera is quick & responsive. I'm delighted with it !!
Pros: Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: none

Great Camera for the $$$

Overall, a great upgrade to my Canon 20D. Very responsive with nice image quality, but you do need good lenses and proper technique to get the most out of this camera. High iso performance is better than my 20D and the new lcd screen is great. I'm primarily use my 50D for portraits, fine art still life, and copy work.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: Complicated controls/menu

Picture Perfect

I have been using old fasion film for years and with all the advancements with the digital cameras now a days i looked into it. In my search for the one for me the 50D caught my eye instantly. Looks great gives you a fine feel of the picture. Live view is an advanced mode to help you fine tune the picture. People comlain about focus problems and digital noise, but with the 50D i experiance no focus problems and was extremely pleased with the accuracy and speed of the focus. I havent seen any noise yet and dont expect to. All my photos have come out clear and sharp with 15.1 megapixles i wouldnt expect anything else. My favorite charactoristic with the 50D is the simpicity. I had never used a high tech digital camera before besides a simple point n shoot. It took me about 15 mins to understand the camera. maybe a few days to get all the settings down. Canon did well with this model a lil pricey but in digital you get what you pay for.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, perfect for pro or novice

50D Review
on October 29, 2008

I've owned the D30, 20D, Rebel XT, 40D, XSi, 1D IIn and now the 50D. All were and are excellent cameras in my opinion. And each represents a step ahead of what was in the line before it. The image quality of the 50D sets it apart from any of the cameras I've owned before it. It's high ISO quality is outstanding and does as claimed, represent at least a full stop improvement over any Canon camera before it. It is very similar to the 40D in all controls, so it's completely easy to switch from one to the other. The motordrive is fast enough for action. The 'My Menu' is excellent for making quick adjustments to menu items that used to have been dug out of too many menu options. For instance, mirror lock up is very easily accessed now. The viewfinder seems very good. My only real complaint is the top control dial. It needs a lock to prevent it from shifting. Aside from that one small complaint, the 50D is an excellent camera in it's price range.
Pros: image quality, low noise at hi isos, handles like 40d, viewfinder, 'my menu', lcd screen
Cons: needs lock on control dial

Solid investment

I was able to start making back money on this investement withing weeks of receiving it. It looks professional (especially with the battery grip), and is very solid, compared to my XTi. The image quality is noticably better than the XTi and the lenses I had now stand out in both image quality and performance, faster focusing etc..., I own the Tamron 28-105mm f/2.8, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, and the Sigma 50mm f/1.4, all super sharp, all super fast focusing, infact they all look like superior "L" lenses when compared. All in all, the photo shoots are going fast and smooth, no missed shots, and no hangups, so far perfectly performing even using hot lighting that warmed up the camera somewhat from being too near for hours on end, going on 4 photoshoots now without issue. AND, great star shooting at high ISO compared to the xti which the 1600 ISO was like using the 6400 ISO now on the 50D. Almost fully controllable in manual, but have not tried the fully auto settings yet (and I have been using for about a month now), easily change the manual settings on the fly, I like the "M" setting the best. My wife was complaining about NOT being able to use live view in the auto modes, which she only uses, so being I bought this for her it is somewhat dissapointing, but oh well, I love this thing to death (until I get the new 5D MKII).
Pros: great iso performance, zoom live view = ultra sharp manual focus, fast shooting, fast focusing, solid feel, great battery life, stable performance, addictive, awesome tech support, great manual controls
Cons: must manually focus 70-200mm f/2.8l is to be sharp, slow focusing in live view, cannot use live view in auto mode

My First SLR!!!

I'm really happy about this investment. This is my first Canon SLR and it's more than a hand full for me since I'm a novice. I went on a cruise to Alaska for 7 days and took over a thousand pictures (8GB CF), the clarity was incredible. I think that this is a great camera for someone who wants to enter the SLR camera series. Can't wait to use it this year at Indianapolis MotoGP race in Sept.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation
Cons: strong learning curve

Great Purchase
on February 14, 2010

This will be a short review since everyone else has said everything I would say. This is hands down a great camera. Features are easy to use and image quality is outstanding. I would also like to say that in the review about flash can't be turned off while in AF, that is wrong. Flash CAN be forced off. If you can't figure out how to turn flash off, or don't take the time to learn (it's called googling) you shouldn't own a DSLR.
Pros: excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, easy to use
