Perfect for my needs

What a step up from my XTi, this camera just rocks.
It doesn't feel like a toy, yet fits the hands perfectly. The accessory grip should be standard as the controls for portrait orientation feel perfect on the grip but otherwise... the camera simply has that great feel about it.
I love the speed with the faster cards, love the 14bit files, love the fact if I'm in trouble or missed something the files can actually be cropped, love the LCD and the weather sealing.
Things I don't like... AEB buried in menu and very limiting, a print button in this day and age (who prints directly from a d-slr???), the camera is VERY hard on non-L lenses whereas my XTi produces better images with the standard every day lenses and lastly is the Live View which I've never used but I use it on my point and shoot so maybe someone can find a use for it (I haven't on the d-slr but have on the P&S).
No regrets, AWESOME camera and if the 50D had off-camera lighting controls like the competition had at the time (now Canon has it with the 7D) I'd be in heaven.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, Missing features/settings, live view, aeb limited, print button seriously???, hard on any non-l lens

Great Camera

I had never used a digital SLR before I purchased this camera. It is very easy to use. I thought I would be taking pictures on auto for a long time because I knew nothing about any of the settings or what they did. After a little study I can use it manually with great success. I'm completely satisfied with the 50D. Although it is much heavier and bigger than my old point and shoot the grip is very comfortable and no problem for me even though I have arthritis in my hands.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

The ultimate camera for auto setting shooting in any situation. The digii magic 4 is fabulous. Only professional variations could be achieved on a higher model camera.
Lacks 1080P HD movie but for the dollar fabulous pictures and rarely need to use manual settings.
next buy will be a higher end Canon camera with full HD movie
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, Short battery life

Excellent Piece of Machinery

This camera is amazing, even though I bought mine used. It has yet to fail me. Any problems with image quality are my fault with not being able to hold my hands still (not due to the weight of the camera). So if anyone has a complaint think about getting a tripod, or that if you have had this camera for a long time remember that cameras have shutter life, if you go over the set amount of shutter actuations your images will get blurry. Its like, miles on a car. I do rock climbing photography and I have to travel on long arduous mountain trails and its weight has yet to be a problem. Its built like a tank. PERIOD. I love this camera so much. If anything lacks color or sharpness then fix it in the custom picture styles. I couldn't have asked for better when I bought this camera, it was more than I expected. Overall epic piece Canon technology, performs amazingly and will get the job done.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu

Wonderful

I am very impressed with the 50D, the best camera I have ever owned. I took picture using my 70-400mm L lens of a garbage can about 100 meters from where I was sitting and I could see dirt specks on the can when I viewed the picture full size. I took a series of pictures from 200 through 3200 ISO using the in camera noise reduction and the pictures were nearly sharp all the way through 3200. With a 8 x 10 view they are almost the same as 200 Iso. Shooting at low iso through 800 I do not have to use software to sharpen the images like I had to with my 10D using the same lenses. Thanks Canon.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

I maybe should have purchased a Rebel series camera buy went ahead and spent the extra cash on a better camera and saved a upgrade later. The thing that I like about this camera is that I get awesome pictures with very little knowledge of photography with a lot of room to grow in creative modes. Every setting that you can think of is there. You will notice it is a heavy piece, very good quality camera. Great purchase.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

Excellent camera

The 50D takes a little time getting use to. After you figure it out, its a very good camera that will never let you down. The metering system is better then my 5D (which I own the first version). The AF is fast and spot on. I love the LCD. Over all, I'm glad I bought ths camera. I bought the battery grip to give me add batter power, and it adds better balance when using longer lenses. The battery grip is a must if you have big hands. It has turned out to be a great wildlife camera for me. I use high ISO a lot,(400 to 1600) and at 1,600 ISO, the noise level is very low, and DPP cleans up what little noise there is perfectly.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
