Excellent Camera

I purchased this camera for multi-purpose usage a little more than a year ago. As a freelance photographer, I need a solid camera that can withstand temperature extremes, rugged environments (dust; light rain; humidity), and other various entities that a photographer encounters. I also need a camera that can give outstanding detail and resolution. The 50D delivers every bit of what I expected, and so much more. If you are condidering any other camera from any other brand, my advice would be to try the 50D first. I can positively assure that this camera will not dissappoint.
I use the Canon 50D with a Canon 24-105mm f4.0L series lens. My other accessories include: battery grip, remote release, and 430EX II flash unit.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation

Outstanding!!!

Did lots of research before buying, and have owned a number of cameras including other DSLRs, SLRs and brands. I can't find anything I don't like about it. I was worried about the "short battery life ratings--it ain't so! Mine is on most of the day, and the battery lasts at least a day and a half. I have no cons except weight, but I expect it to weigh as much as the comparables.....best camera buy I have ever made.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life

Great Camera no problems

I don't understand why some gave this camera a bad rep, Because it is a great camera. Those who gave it bad reviews either don't know how to use the camera or they are total NIKON people just keeping this camera from getting the ratings it realy deserves. I had this camera for a week now and find it very useful and easy to use, as for the noise in the pictures that some are complaining about I haven't seen it yet. I work for a Photography studio doing Commercial photography and we use alot of canon camera's in the studio, You have to know the camera you are working with before you can create great pictures with it, I use my personal camera which is the new 50D for my enjoyment in what I want to shoot, But we use the MK1's for the big jobs we shoot, and let me tell you that I don't see much difference at all, I am very happy and content with my 50D.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

What Else Can I Say?

I am not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said about this incredible camera. I have absolutely no complaints about this camera at all. If anything someone would get very tired of listening to me rave about it. The image quality is amazing, The high ISO performance (ISO3200) exceeds my 5D (Mark I) and is on par in print sizes up to 12 x18 to photos taken with a 5D Mark II and 1DS Mark III to my eye. In other words, noise just doesn't exist. The 15MP sensor is as large as I would care to go in any camera because cramming more in there just increases noise and creates gigantic files that normal computers just won't be able to handle (or will eat up your hard drive in no time at all). The build of this thing is solid. With the grip it feels absolutely solid in your hands. I shoot with it in the rain, the snow, the sun, anytime, and have never had a single issue. The speed of the 50D is fast enough for anything that you will need to shoot, and the AF system never lets me down. I shoot nothing but RAW, and I have yet to have the camera lock up in the middle of the action because the buffer filled up, or have the camera fail to track my subject in the middle of a series of shots. If I were forced to complain about something, it would be that I am not a fan of the 18-135 kit lens, so I would save my money there and buy the body only. There are much nicer lenses in that price range that would be much better paired with a camera of this quality. Overall I say that Canon has really outdone themselves with the 50D. Thanks guys!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, af system

Canon EOS 50D

Great DSLR. Photographed weddings and portraits without disappointments. With the right lens, of course, this camera takes great low-light photos with very little noise. Picture quality is comparable to the 1D and 5D MKII. There are some who standby their 40D (also a great DSLR) which is understandable, but its does not perform any better than the 50D (bigger sensor), and some complain of picture quality. Well, to the right user and lens, this thing shoots professional photos, bar none.
I own both 40D and 50D, also Nikon D80. All great cameras but I find myself grabbing for the 50D out of the bag almost everytime. My suggestion is to use the L lenses for these cameras. A bit pricey for the beginners but and an essential for the pros.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: no hd video

I love this camera

Just recently purchased the 50D after spending considerable time learning about the 40D. Purchased the 50D on sale and I am so glad I did. This camera is incredible. Canon obviously has spent a lot of time planning these improvments from the 40D. I have used the camera so far to shoot a basketball game, a wedding and I'm taking it with me to Washington D.C. The layout of the controls makes using the camera very easy. If your looking for a new DSLR this is the one.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

I have used this camera for just over a year. I've shot in dim light(night clubs), landscape, flash, action etc. The camera takes great pictures any "noise" in the upper ISO I think is like shooting high ISO film. I've been shooting Canon since I was in HS, my first camera was an A-1 then I moved through the F-1 and then the film EOS cameras. I even shoot with view cameras. This is my first dslr and I'm glad I waited to make the jump anything I've taken shots of I have been completely satisfied with. I have access to some high end printing devices and the files this camera can generate can be blown up very large. This camera has been a good step into dslr and after I collect some more L lens' I will move up to 5d or 1d. This camera matched with Canons fine L series lens' is a great combination.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use

The more I use it....the more I like it!

I have been a Canon owner for several years..from the XT , 20D,30D, 40D and now the 50D. The live image and LCD detail of the 50D was what I needed to make the move from my 40D. The controls and features are very similar which makes the transition seemless. Images initially appeared to have more noise and less detail than my 40D. However, push the larger image down to the image scale of the 40D and the detail comes out and the noise seems to reduce to less than the 40D's. The ISO Auto is a nice feature.... hopefully a software upgrade will make it adjustable from 1600 down to 800 when needed. Software interchangeable focu screens would be a plus.
The ability to adjust the in and out focus distance for each lens is nice. I had one lens that was not quite there with my 40D..... it now performs very well once it was tuned to the 50D. Menu has been improved and the feel is exactly the same.
Each day, the photos seem to get better. The 40D was more forgiving, but less capable in several ways. What could make lit a better camera? Software generated focus screens, a few more AF points, video and maybe GPS compatible..... that's on the 5d now, right?
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: Missing features/settings
