Great Camera

I have had the camera for a couple of months now, and really like it so far. I haven't taken too many photos in low light, but have used ISO 800 and 1600 for added shutter speed (I shot in RAW), and noise isn't too bad. I used the Digital Photo Professional software that came with the camera to lower the noise, and it worked pretty good.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

Great choice

For Christmas I purchased the EOS 50D to replace one of my EOS 20D's. What a good idea! The camera fit my hands better and it is balanced very well. I have now used it for Christmas photos, several commercial shoots and a quick getaway to Bosque del Apache. The responsiveness in the high speed mode allowed me to capture dozens of great bird pictures in flight, something I have struggled with in the past. The transition in use from my 20D was simple and very intuitive. The only thing I can fault is that the much larger LCD does get the occasional nose print on it, and that is very minor indeed. The smoothness of my photos even in the higher ISO modes is impressive to say the least, and the resolution of the finished images is breathtaking. I couldnt ask for more (at this time) but as soon as I can afford it I will be replacing my other (now backup) 20D Gateway
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, Short battery life

Having used the XT XSi 20D and 30D, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this camera. The build feels rock solid, the viewfinder bright and large and the features are just a knock out.
My work is web based, so I have no need for a full frame camera, but I work with these cameras while rock-climbing, on surf beaches, in driving snow and rain, and they never miss a beat.
I also use the Canon iPF5100 printer and I find the perfect matching set that allows me to shoot at dawn, edit and print before the Gallery door opens.
Another key element in an amazing system!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life

I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA AFTER USING A 20D FOR 4 YEARS. I LOVED THE 20D BUT WANTED TO UPGRADE AND HAVE A BACKUP CAMERA. IT HAS BEEN WONDERFUL. I HAVE THE 8GB CARD BUT PREFER TO SHOOT WITH THE 4GB INSTEAD. I HAVE YET TO MISS A SHOT DUE TO THE BATTERY. CHARGE YOUR BATTERY AFTER EVERY USE AND YOU WONT HAVE A PROBLEM. I
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, easy to use, good battery life

I'm not a hard-core D-SLR user but I've used an old digital Rebel and a 20-D for the last few years and I must say that the 50-D is fabulous in comparison. It is extremely fast, feature-rich, and the display is large, clear and bright. I use it mostly with my 24-105 IS lens and find that that combo meets 75% of my needs. I'm getting great results. The only negative thing I would say about it is that at very high ISO the noise is more than I had expected, based on the marketing writeups (even with the noise reduction function enabled).
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life, fast burst rate
Cons: digital noise at high iso

This camera is solid, takes sharp - clear pictures, feels like a quality made product and makes a novice (like myself) feel like a professional. It is so easy to use, the instruction manuals are clear and well written. The features of the camera, as well as the software, are fun to experiment with by allowing the user to be very creative in determining the final results.
Bottom line - if you want to impress family and friends with quality pictures this is the camera for you.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

I had Minolta film cameras, then a Canon XTi and now the 50D. I love it! All the features I can ever use, and the quality isfantastic! As with any DSLR the price is quite steep. I can now use the f/4 and f/5.6 lenses to their fullest capacity due to the higher ISO speeds. The speed in fps has enabled me to take stop-action photos at football games. The clarity of prints is unequalled by anyother make of camera. Thank you Canon for such a wonderful camera. I will never switch to another brand. Now please get the lens prices down so I won't have to wait as long to get them too.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: pricey

Canon 50D user report

I have used a Canon Rebel XTi, Canon EOS 40D and now this Canon 50D. I bought it for my wife and I ordered a Canon 5D tthat will arrive shortly. I told myself I would continue to use my 40D until my 5D arrived. However I found myself sneaking this camera out when my wife was at work because of the improved image quality. I found this camera to focus better than my 40D and also the focus time seemed faster. I also think the images that I take (I use Raw images only) to have a sort of 3D effect to them. This is on some images only and not all the time. I use this camera mostly with a Canon 100-400 L lens and also with my new Canon 500mm f/4 L IS USM that I just got as a retirement present for myself.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, great 6.5 fps shooting
Cons: noisy
