Fantastic

Having use a 20D for almost 5 years, the 50D is nothing but fantastic. Most amazing is the live view which allows me to hoist the camera on a monopod over 9 feet and getting the shot 1st time!
Pros: Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, increased iso

Affordable High End Performance

I purchased a Canon 50D to take sports photography along with a 70-200 2.8 fL zoom lens. This combination has provided excellent results and the camera and lens combination is very flexible while also being easy to use and having an excellent learning curve.
I strongly recommend anyone who is looking for high quality who has a budget to look into this camera.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

Terrific camera with one significant problem for me. But first, the camera is easy to use in automatic mode, but has all the features that a professional photographer or advanced amateur would want. Perhaps a few of the terms could have been a little easier, but the features are all there. The one negative is poor eye relief for those of us who must wear eyeglasses. You can see the entire field of view in the viewfinder, but not the settings, or you can see the settings and only part of the field of view. Hopefully, this is something that will be corrected in the future.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
Cons: poor eye relief

Great Value and More

I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!! I have been using the 50D on nearly a daily basis since it was introduced in a small but rather successful photography business. My personal camera has at last count taken nearly 30,000 shots in the past year without fail, and is still going strong! some may complain about the weight of the camera, but I say it's got a good heft and feel, that's a quality build you're feeling! Paired with the battery grip (BG-E2N) you can squeeze nearly 800 shots out of this baby in the field before needing to replace the batteries. I once shot an entire 8 hour wedding on 1 set of batteries!!! The view finder is large and clear with a great field of view. I find most if not all of the controls easy to use and intuitive for an advanced user (although may be a high learning curve for a novice).
For value (price vs. quality & features) I feel this camera just can't be beat and was an excellent addition to the canon line-up. When I upgrade again this year, I will NOT surrender my beloved 50D, but rather keep her for back-up and everyday use. I go nowhere without this camera by my side...
Pros: Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, great feel
Cons: Short battery life

Astounding!

After using friends' Canon DSLRs, I decided to FINALLY break down and purchase one. Having never used a 50D before, I was a little hesitant (used plenty of Rebels, couple late model Marks). Man am I glad I decided to grab it.
Menu of course is intuitive, easy to use, and easy to navigate- of course it's basically the same as any other canon menu :)
I generally shoot either in AV or TV (or manual when shooting macro) and the quality that I get is PHENOMENAL! Most of my "serious" shooting is either macro or landscape. The b/w shooting mode is superb as well and the photos need very little adjustment in post processing (I generally shoot in RAW).
I really could go on and on, but you'd get tired of reading... I have nothing negative to say.
To those who use cost as a con- price vs quality on this model is incredibly good. You get what you pay for, and in my opinion, the quality is more like what you would get if you spent double, if that makes sense.
THANK YOU, CANON!!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

This is an upgrade from a another upscale brand camera (not an SLR) that I bought when the 5 Mega pixels first came out.
The best recommendation I can give is this--I showed my new Canon to my Brother-in Law, a professional photographer.--He had seen the 50D but was going to wait a while to buy one since he bought another brand camera a short time ago. After seeing mine...He ordered one over the internet within a couple of days. I have gone from 5 Megapixels to 15+. and that is just the beginning. I had used a pretty a decent nonprofessional type camera that was pretty slow in a lot of respects---and now I am using a very sophisticated Canon SLR that will run circles around the old one. I am a professional artist not a professional photographer. Even though I have only had the Cannon about two weeks and still on a huge learning curve--it is still simple enough to use the Auto and other features that allow me to use it with confidence while learning the finer points.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use

Great camera

I upgraded from the 20D.fot the sensor cleaning is, a necessary feature and it works great. The camera is fast.and is excellent in low light. I just took it on a 1200 mile sailboat race and got incredible shots, sunrises, sets and action shots.
I am still finding and working on the image settings.
Overall, I love this camera. I have owned many Canon cameras and they keep coming up with the best products.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: Missing features/settings
