We have appreciated having the the Newair portable air conditioner these past five (or so) years, especially during the really hot summers. However, the hose became damaged over time. I contacted customer service and received a response in a timely manner. Shanice, the customer service rep, was quick to respond to my following emails and she was able to find the replacement part for me. One thing that I would appreciate more would be making the website easier to navigate to find replacement parts.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Unit !

I purchased this product for our basement ,that we have finished off. We also have a bedroom down there for guests. The unit was easy to set up and was able to modify the hose attachment for a small basement window. Took all of 15 minutes to set up. This was one hot summer here on the east coast and the unit performed superbly. Kept the basement cool at about 71 degrees during the day and 68 degrees at nite for sleep. I would highly recommend this unit if you have an area that needs cooling. You wont be disappointed.

Expected more for the price

Turn on will only cool room 3-4 degrees. I’ve had window units that cool the room way better. used it in a small room and temperature held at 77 degrees while it was 85 degrees outside. Water reservoir empties quickly. Not recommended for south Texas weather where the temperature hits triple digits.

Air & Water has contacted me and is shipping out a replacement unit, set to arrive next week. They do indeed honor their warranty. They've even allowed me to ship the defective unit back in the new unit's packaging, and waived the shipping fee. They also offered to help me schedule a pickup of the defective unit once it's ready to come back. So the customer service experience has been very positive so far. Unfortunately i can't edit a prior review to add updates, so I have to do it this way. We'll see what happens when the new unit arrives. Hopefully it will be fine. FedEx tends to be very rough on package handling. I know in the guidelines for posting, they tell you not to talk about customer service, but it's hard to update without mentioning it, since it's a big part of solving this problem. The rep that has been working with me is doing a good job. As for why the rating isn't higher, it's mainly because of dealing with the logistics of shipping to and from CA with a large/heavy, expensive piece of equipment. and the frequency of having to do so on each purchase. (I've had to return a damaged unit before on my first ever purchase years ago, in the heat of summer. it was not fun. But again, the customer service was great.) The customer service experiences I've had have been very good, including price matching from another major retailer on the purchase of the unit i have now. The customer service was honestly the reason I preferred to buy direct rather than go through a national chain that carried the same product. Besides, if you purchase a NewAir unit from another retailer, you'd have to contact the manufacturer for any issues anyway. So it cuts out a step to buy direct. And when you get a good unit, it works really well for a very long time. My old one made it almost 8 years with nearly continuous daily use before it started to go bad. As for the unit itself, i'm still not a big fan of having to fill the water tank frequently to help with the cooling of the unit when the compressor's running. And i miss the auto louvers that helped to circulate air around the room better than the fixed ones these come with. Also about a quarter of the vent is blocked by styrofoam insulation from the inside of the unit, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The unit chews through power, too, which is a little disappointing that it's not more energy-efficient. So there's room for improvement on the unit itself. That being said, I don't regret purchasing/owning the unit, but there's definitely stuff that can be made better on it for future models.

I would not buy this product again and again.

I use this portable room air conditioner in my summer home. I cannot move a window unit in and out by myself so this is a good solution. However the window bracket did not fit the window size so I had to cut it to fit with a hack saw. If you would include some soft foam with the unit that would help fill in some of the spaces. Also I have trouble with it popping out of the window. Do you people actually try to work with this in a real window? I have another one that is a Delonghi and have the same problem with it. I can forward a picture if you want where I am using it.
