do not buy

Although it is a high quality camera the lack of a view finder makes it impossible to use in bright light. With the sun behind me all I can see is a reflection of what is behind me.
Cons: no view finder
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

good overall, except lens

Overall, a decent camera. Some really good and useful features. I wish the lens were sharper. When images are magnified several times there's some pixel artifacts that aren't present in images taken with my older A560 at 7.1 MB. SX110 images don't appear as sharp as those, even when I returned the first SX110 and aquired a replacement SX110.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Poor image quality
I would recommend this to a friend!

huge disappointment

I bought this as a small, light, cheap addition to my Canon digital SLRs. unfortunately, I have nothing good to say about my purchase.
Image quality is lousy. At ISOs as low as 200 and above, the sensor produces much too much noise. take a picture of a white surface, and you will notice yellow "sprinkles" all over it. I don't know if this is normal or if I got a faulty unit, but image quality at ISO 80 or 100 is barely acceptable, and at higher ISOs it's horrible.
Battery life is another issue. I regard it as a big plus if I can feed my camera AA batteries - they're cheaper than proprietary battery packs, and replacements always readily available. however, the SX110 is very picky about batteries, and sometimes refuses to run with fully recharged batteries that work flawlessly for weeks in other cameras.
The auto focus is another weak part of the camera. it is slow, and focusing on close objects (less than 50 cm), even in macro mode, usually takes 3 or 4 tries at least until it is able to focus.
other complaints: no viewfinder; on the LCD, bright areas bleed out into white vertical stripes; no RAW support; very pronounced chromatic aberrations; build quality is rather mediocre as well, does not cope with dirt (such as sand on a beach) well.
I will throw mine away and am now deciding between a G11, S90, or something non-Canon.
Cons: very noisy images, slow and unreliable autofocus, battery life

not the best.

I have had this camera for a year, I take it everywhere and the battery life is very low. I had to change the batteries once a day until I got expensive rechargeable ones. The pictures are washed out and the pictures come out very dark inside and in low light areas. I have to change the setting all the time because pictures come out grainy. Auto is not easy and never works, very dark.
The zoom is very nice! And it is very compact and light weight. The camera works very well it sunny places and outside. The macro works well too.
Pros: Nice features/settings, durable, Bright LCD, nice zoom
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, Difficult to use, Short battery life, Heavy/Bulky, Complicated controls/menu
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is the second Cannon I own and I loved the old one I have but is not working any more. So I tried to buy a better one to capture all the precious moment, but all the picture that I wanted all went to trash. It's very nice for outdoor but very poor in indoor. Can't compare to the one that I brought few years ago. And I'm planning to return it.
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, Poor image quality, Heavy/Bulky, Short battery life

Cons: Complicated controls/menu, Short battery life

SX110 IS - a disappointment
on August 6, 2009

My A95 died, to my sadness, and I replaced it with the SX110 after looking at a lot of reviews and deciding I wanted a larger zoom. Having manual controls is a must for me, and with this camera, they're necessary to get a good shot. While having a 10x zoom is great, I am really disappointed by the image quality and performance. I've taken some of the same shots with the SX110 as I did with my old A95, and the images are definitely blurry (even in sunlight) and a bit warm in comparison. I also find the flash awkward, and I don't like only having the option of having the focus be on faces or the center of the shot. What if there are two objects on either side of the frame? The SX110 doesn't know what to do. The Kids&Pets setting also seems fairly useless for capturing motion shots, especially in low-light levels. Even on Auto ISO, it wouldn't raise the ISO above 200 even when I had the flash off, so the long shutter speeds gave me really blurry shots. Why not give a proper Sports&Action setting as well as keep on the Stitch Assist mode? I've been a big Canon fan and I rarely return purchases, but I may return this and keep looking.
Pros: Nice features/settings
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, Heavy/Bulky, poor moving object performance, awkward flash, poor focus performance
