Great Camera

I bought this Canon because I wanted something more "simlpe" than my 5D and the required lenses, something to take to the friends, or short trips. Originally I chose the camera because the x10 optical zoom. When I start using it I was AMAIZED by the camera's features, form sharp, fast, video to friendly menu. So far everything is excellent and it is exactly what I wanted. The only issue that it may have; eats batteries.
Overall - Great job Canon!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, durable, great video
Cons: Short battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Camera For Just About Anyone

The SX110IS is a very versatile camera that takes excellent pictures. It is not your run-of-the-mill point and shoot camera. Therefore, you will want to spend some time , with manual in hand, and experiment with all of the features this camera has to offer. However, you will likely take most shots on the "Auto" setting and the camera does the rest. The 3" viewfinder is bright and crisp, and is wonderful for playback. If you have dozens of stored shots, you have the ability to view multiple pictures together on the display and page through them to find the shot you're looking for. The 10X zoom is invaluable for taking shots of distant subjects, and the 4X digital zoom will boost the zoom to 40X! I recently took pictures of deer from 300 yds and it looked like I was within 50 ft. of them. Even my friends were impressed. I especially like the video capability, which I used this weekend for the first time. The image and audio quality are superb, however, the zoom function is disabled in movie mode. I have found battery life to be acceptable using rechargeable NI-MH batteries. Make sure you get batteries rated at 2000mAh or higher for the best results, and try to have them freshly charged. If you use disposable batteries, you're better off using Energizer Lithium- use regular batteries only as a last resort. Regardless of what battery you use, always, ALWAYS, have spares on hand! The only real disadvantage is the absence of a viewfinder, but the 3" display compensates well for this. It is only a nuisance for me because I wear reading glasses, so the display is not totally in focus unless I have them on. If you are looking for a quality, versatile camera, I highly recommend the SX110IS- it will not disappoint.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance
Cons: no viewfinder

I loved my SX100, it was a great camera, but I broke it in August. I saw that there was to be a new version to be released so I waited for it. I was concerned that the new version would "ruin" the features I found so great in the SX100, including the flip up flash (no mistaken use of flash) and no optical viewfinder.) I saw the SX110 was supposed to be slimmer, but didn't believe it would make much difference. I was wrong and pleased to be so. The SX110 has fixed the issues with the SX100 (the too easily changed setting ring) and made a great feeling slimmer, bigger screen, greater megapixel camera. The IS appears to work better and is quite quite good (helped hand held low light exposures down to slower than 1/10 sec. It is better, much better than the already great SX100. The 10X quickly becomes indispensable. I am happier and happier with the Sx110 each time I use it! Thank you Canon!
Pros: great addictive 10x zoom, great image stabilization, geat screen and manual mode, great canon color, great ergonomics, great value, flip up flash prevents accidental flash, no opti viewfinder makes it more compact, slimmer and better controls than sx100, 10 megapixel
Cons: cannot find control to exclude non-op zoom

The best bargain around

This camera can do almost everything. The only thing a low-end DSLR can do better is go into higher ISO settings. But if you keep it at 200 or below, you can do anything.
Outstanding camera.
I would only hesitate to purchase if you are taking indoor action shots that are beyond a few feet. This camera is best for outdoor action or posed indoor shots.
I got it for two Benjamins. I love this camera.
Oh, and it's a battery gobbler, but if you use quality rechargables, it'll take a gazillion shots, with flash. Do NOT use alkalines. Use rechargables.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, durable, great price

Terrific quality camera

I bought this camera because I wanted a better quality camera than my 6yr old p&s camera. After a ton of research I decided on this one, and overall I'm extremely pleased with it. I haven't run into any problems since I bought it almost a year ago.
It can take fantastic pictures, It has a very durable body (so it's good if you're as clumsy as me), there's all the settings that you need if you want to shoot manually and if not it still has a great auto mode.
Although, I would've liked to see it have a bulb mode. However, missing that one feature ,for me, isn't enough to make me regret getting this camera. Also the video quality is not too good, but a camera is made to take pictures and not videos.
So, in the end I would recommend this to anyone from the aspiring amateur to anyone who just wants an easy to use camera with great image quality.

Good Balance of Price vs Features

I've been using the camera for approx one month now. In contrast to the reviewers who say the controls are too complicated, I disagree and feel Canon has come a long way from the unintuitive interface they used several years back. In addition, you have to understand that this camera provides the user a TON of various options - which place this camera closer to a higher end SLR than a standard point and shoot digital camera. If you want to only do the simple point-and-shoot, fear not, this camera will do it, but if you want to "break all the rules" and experiment, this camera will let you do that also. As for poor battery life, hum. We've shot several hundred pictures and a bit of video in the last month and we're still on the same set of batteries. And the fact that I can pop into any store and buy a couple of AA's and be back up and running and not searching desperately for a 110v outlet to recharge a stupid proprietary battery (for an hour) is a major plus for me. 10X Zoom - wonderful. Macro is awesome - took pictures of butterflies from 2 inches away that turned out crystal clear. The only thing I wish the camera had is a bit wider angle lens - at 37mm (or whatever it is) it's a bit tight with the group shots. 30mm or 28mm would be ideal.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, full manual control, full auto control
Cons: would like 28mm wide angle

Perfect for a novice

I bought this camera because I love photography, and i would love to do it professionally, but I couldn't afford an SLR. This was the best deal I could find and I love it! It's the perfect camera for someone who's just startng out. It has a ton of cool settings and has a manual setting for the more serious photographer. The photos are detailed and clear, and I absolutely love the macro setting. The only majorly annoying flaw is the delay while the flash is loading, which is almost 3 seconds. It may not seem like that much but when you're trying to take multiple photos it's extremely hindering. Also, I don't like how it doesn't have a neck strap. It's a bit too big to put in your pocket and too bulky to be carrying around on a wrist strap. The camera also doesn't do very well shooting in the dark. But, it's easy to use and the pictures always turn out great. If you're serious about photography but don't want to spend all the money an SLR requires, then this is for you.

What knocked my socks off when I began using this camera was the movie feature...Usually, this is a throw away extra that comes with every point and shoot camera, but this extra is something else...The movies range in size from small to large...I set mine up for the 640 size that will take up your whole screen when you play movies you have taken...The quality is just hard to believe. and I kept the cameral running for a for a whole hour...you can even make it longer if you make the pics smaller.. I cant say enough about this feature..I took the movie indoors with little lighting and still the movie is quite fantastic... One other feature that is so exceptional for a point and shoot is you can resize the size of the pictures you plan on taking thereby eliminating the job of resizing the pic before you email it them out.. I could go on and on about this camera but it might seem that I work for the company and I dont... Oh, by the way...the battery cover is not hard at all to work with...Just take your time till you are used to sliding it open and closed and it works great.. Lastly, wait till you see how fantastic that 3 inch LCD panel is....YOu will never again have to look thru a view finder...That feature alone is a real improvement. Good luck, you will love this baby..
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
