This camera is the ultimate machine. My previous camera was a small Sony dsc-S40 and it made great pictures, but the shutter malfunctioned and it was done for. When I bought this equipment, I liked the lens and the form of the camera. It has many choices for different types of pictures and once you get familiar with the slightly complicated controls, It's the ultimate camera to shoot ANYTHING. It feels very durable and fine when you compose pictures. I love that. It's a machine that has all of the spirit and charecteristics of REAL, pure photography that has been somewhat absent for the past 20 years. All the charecteristics are perfectly working with all the components.
Pros: sleek, pure, real colors, great focus, large lens, awesome zoom, perfect for all uses, pleasure to use, many more
Cons: no grip; slippery when held

i had a digital elph sd 1100 is that i loved. i have always wanted to become a professional photographer but i want to know more about the camera settings and features before moving into an slr. i have used the canon EOS 30D and and Rebel Series. also on a budget i found this camera and the camera features are amazing. it says its a 9 megapixel but it has 10.1 active megapixels. i do photography of my son and other random things like scenery and outdoors. this camera is excellent in all aspects. i can take great pictures in pitch dark condition. with the 10X zoom you can get close ups with out any trouble. face detection helps alot when taking portraits and macros. overall this camera is great. the only thing is that the camera doesnt fit in my pocket . other than that battery life has been good to me i have had it for about a month taken more than 100 photos and i havent replaces the batteries it came with. awsome job canon
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, durable
Cons: Heavy or bulky

This camera ROCKS. I have used it at soccer games -rapid fire shots, indoors at birthday parties -candlelight, for commencment - with the zoom , from 10 rows from the stage- I got face shots with no flash Love the macro - the clarity of the shots are wonderful. Buy this and you will not be disappointed. Like most, the flash eats battery life - take 2 batteries in your camera case - with using AA they are accessable anywhere AND you don't have to remember to charge it.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance

Amazing Camera!

I was in the market for a new digital camera. I have been out of the camera loop for about 4 years and while doing research, I decided to only research Canon products since that is what I own in 35mm (3 cameras, all great).. The DSLR's were out of my price range and I wanted something a little more than the ultra compacts. After reading many reviews, I decided on the SX110. I liked the features it had: 9 MP, 3" LCD, Manual exp., etc. When I started using it and while reading the manual, I was absolutely amazed at the # of features this camera had. I could not believe what this camera could do. I used to be a pro photographer so understanding these features was not too difficult, but I could see how a novice might be overwhelmed. Do not let that deter you . With some basic knowledge and practice, you will be able to grasp the sx110. Some people have mentioned that it is complicated and do not like the thumb wheel for choosing controls. I really like this method. The control buttons and wheels are easy to use and are very responsive. I honestly don't know why some people have problems. The menu features, which are abundant, only took a day or so to get used to. Again, do NOT let the abundant features and controls deter you. This camera is packed with features you's expect in a much more expensive camera. Although I won't use ALL the features, I will use many. I really like the included software also. It makes downloading and sorting the photos a breeze. I really like the automatic file classifier. Before, with my old camera, if I took 30 photos, the camera would automatically assign a generic file name and number to it. Then I would have to manually change each file to name it to what I wanted. With this software, all you have to do is assign a personal name to ONE photo in the series and the software will automatically assign that name and a numerical designation to the rest of the files in that series. I also enjoyed viewing the photos through the camera by either people or events. Pick "people" and that's exactly the photos it will bring up. Yesterday, I christened the camera by taking pictures of my grandchildren and they came out fantastic. All indoor shots too. I set the camera on "indoor" and the pictures came out as if they were shot outdoors; no "warm yellow" tint that you always get from indoor shooting with table lamps on. I did some "macro" shooting today and the PQ was very good. As far as battery life, I can't comment on that yet as I have not used it enough. Some have complained about poor battery life but it's possible they may be using poor re-charges or thier re-charges are not being cycled properly. I am currently waiting for a set of ENELOP batteries and will make sure I charge them slowly. I have recently read that fast charging is absolutely the worst thing you can do to batteries. All in all, this is a great camera. I am very pleased with the PQ and ease of use.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: none

BEST CAMERA ON EARTH!!!!

This is the best camera on earth. I bought this camera to create beautiful memories of my daughter growing up. I'm mainly leaving this review for people with kids who are wondering if this camera can keep up with taking quick fast shots, without missing out on precious moments.
Fast Camera!!! This camera has NEVER missed a shot and she's a very quick and fast little two year old. I've captured every single quick smile, precious pose, and all of her active moments. I do this using the sports mode. In this mode, the camera actually takes the picture the very same instant you press down on the button (no delay whatsoever). In this mode, when she's running, there is no blurryness.
Great Indoor Camera!!! This camera also takes GREAT indoor pics as well. It is a bit heavier than the little camera's out there....but if you want to sacrifice qaulity and performance...go for a little one.
Outstanding Detail and Zoom qaulity I wanted something that was powerful, and something that my husband can take to football games, basketball and other sporting events. That's actually how I sold him on the idea of purchasing this camera. The zoom capability is out of this world. For example, we went to the park the other day and I was able to get pictures of the ducks from the OTHER SIDE OF THE LAKE....and in very clear detail. Now that's powerful.
Easy to use!!! The minute this camera arrived, I took it out of the box and started using it. I didn't even read the instructions...that's how easy it is to use. I'm more of a beginner type when it comes to camera's. I popped the batteries in, and went crazy taking pics. The video mode has a dedicated button so you can video events very quickly without fussing with dials.
No Regrets!!! I hope I've helped someone out on making their purchase decision. I get compliments all of the time on how fast the camera is and how wonderful the pics look. I love this CAMERA!!! I can tell you that you won't regret this purchase.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, durable, fast camera
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, Short battery life

Homerun!

I love this camera. User friendly, affordable, and great image quality. I consider my self an avid enthusiast. I use this camera for outdoor photograph during backcountry hikes. For this reason, I wanted a camera that was still somewhat compact, yet without sacrificing image quality. This model provides awesome performance and image quality in a compact and smooth package. The camera actually fits in a Lowepro "Ridge 30" belt holster. Canon has really hit a homerun with the SX110 IS. I believe it will become a very popular unit.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, durable, great battery life with aa lithium.
Cons: short battery life with standard aa alkaline.

10x Zoom

I bought the camera because Consumer Reports (July 2009 issue) rated it as the Best buy in the Superzoom / Point and shoot camera class. In addition I bought it because a reviewer said they used the 10X zoon inside a pro basketball arena to capture pictures of people and the players in the arena that were far away. The results amazed the people sitting nearby. And then you have video capability.....all within this price range.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, video capability
