Best Gift Ever!!!
on September 3, 2009

We recieved this camera as a gift a couple days before leaving for China to adopt our daughter. I took about 900 pictures and videos. This camera takes awesome pictures. Everyone who sees my camera comments about how nice it is. I've even sold a few of my friends on it. It can eat through cheap batteries pretty quick, so I recommend using a high quality, long lasting battery.
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!

Broken after 16 months
on May 23, 2010

This camera was very good to use for the past 16 months or so. The memory card will no longer lock into place, so I am taking it to a local professional camera repair shop to see if it is worth fixing. I am VERY disappointed that it has broken after only 16 months. I have owned a number of Canon SLRs and lenses over the past 20+ years and I never had any problems with them. This is the first one that has needed service. I hope it does not cost too much to get repaired.
The camera itself was a lot of fun and allowed me to take some good shots. It is not an SLR. But, the image quality was very good. The controls/operation were easy to learn. The large viewscreen was nice. The zoom was adequate for its size. I liked the macro capabilities. And, the image stabilization worked very well. I also liked the limited video abilities of the camera. I have never taken movies before.
The only issues I had with this camera were that it took a few seconds to reset after each shot and I could not get a very deep depth of field. But, that is because it is a point and shoot camera. And, of course, the fact that the memory card lock broke after only 16 months has really made me angry. I have owned SLRs before and I take care of my cameras. I protect them when I am carrying them and I keep them clean and away from moisture. This breakage is very disappointing.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Flimsy Construction, slow between shots, limited apeture
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This Is A Great Camera!

I loved this camera so much, I gave my son and my daughter each one for Christmas. They love it too! The image stabilizer is really nice. I like the zoom lens. I carry this camera with me everywhere I go. I even have it with me at work. I like the movie mode too. I purchased a 4 gig memory card, and that allows me to take both movies and still photos. The pictures are crisp and sharp! I would recommend this camera to everyone! If you purchase the precharaged, rechargable batteries, the battery life lasts a long time!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

Amazing Quality

I am amazed at the quality that this camera takes pictures. I take a lot of nature pictures and family pictures and sometimes there isn't enough time to find a proper position for the picture. For a fast pace picture, this camera is by far the best that I have owned. The programs that come with it are an excellent help.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, good for on the move pictures

I am very satisified with this camera

I am getting ready to go on a cruise to Grand Cayman Island and the camera I wanted to bring was a bit too bulky. I found the camera in my search for a compact camera that offered allot of features at a great price.
I am very proud to say I have found it. I have used other brands but I am not as happy as I am with the Canon SX119 IS. My pictures are getting more notice, and I credit it to the many features it offers. The 10 x zoom along with the AA batteries was a plus for me ,not having to have special batteries to operate. It is the perfect size for the trip. I have since packed away the other camera. The only thing I wish Canon provided with this camera is a underwater casing for diving... Maybe you'll consider designing one for it. I carry it with me everywhere.
Thanks Canon for making this camera and allowing me so many ways to express myself through my camera. .

Solid point and shoot
on December 9, 2009

I received this camera from my insurance company as a replacement for a Kodak that was stolen. Being a Canon shooter (Digtal Rebel XT, 40D and 5D Mark II), I was very happy to add another Canon to the "family."
Overall, this is a decent little camera. Admittedly, my use is limited as the bulk of my photography is with my SLR's. All I wanted a point and shoot for is something I can leave in my truck, take on a bike ride, etc. This little camera fits that bill perfectly.
I would call the image quality "average" for this class of camera. When you try to cram all-in-one features into such a little package, there are bound to be compromises. For example, the SX110 isn't the greatest in low light. However, it is possible to get decent low light results using the manual controls and a little extra thought.
The controls are a bit clumsy, but then again, I'm used to my bigger DSLR's. I'm sure with more frequent use, I'd adapt to this camera without much trouble.
I'm pretty satisfied. If I were specifically shopping for a point and shoot, I might have been tempted to invest a little more in one of Canon's higher end lines. Still, I have recommended this camera to others as a solid, mid-range point and shoot.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use, good image quality
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance
