Very handy

Nice smaller camera with a viewfinder at a good price.
Use it as a secondary unit to a SLRD to avoid changing lens. Only disappointment is the delay for second shot.

I absolutely LOVE this camera so far. I haven't had the time to go through all the functions yet because I'm stuck in the macro setting and can't stop looking for bugs and whatnot to take close up shots of. I wish I could post a few samples on here...unless there's a way and I haven't figured it out yet.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, color choices! love the dusky purple

Excellent Camera....but

This camera takes excellent pictures. It does go through batteries very quickly when using the flash and waiting for the flash to recharge resulted in some missed pictures. Controls are a bit confusing. Providing a 150 page user guide is nice but I want to take pictures not read so I think the camera should have easier controls. All that said you can take this camera out of the box and start snapping pics. Rechargable batteries may address the battery life. Overall, Excellent camera for the price and it does take fantastic pictures.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, durable
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, Short battery life

Fun to use and also creative

This is a great camera.
Have used it for the past year and have had zero problems, it takes great pictures no matter what the setting or conditions. I use the best quality rechargeable batteries I can find, and I have had no problems whatsoever. I took a picture on the micro setting in the detail was astonishing, it picked up every detail of the flower and the small beetle that was walking across it.
I highly recommend buying and using this camera.

Awesome Images and Easy To Use

This is an awesome little point-and-click camera. I had a camera, heavily advertised by a young Hollywood actor, which was just a few years old but rather disappointing. Regrettably, I have some very poor photos from big family events. That’s when I decided to change to Canon and I replaced it with this PowerShot A1000 IS.
I had purchased my girl-friend a Canon PowerShot Elph for Christmas 2007 and her photos were great. The photos from this camera are even better; from low light dinner parties to outdoor mountain hikes, they’re all awesome pics! One of the best, and most overlooked feature is the viewfinder. You can give your camera to anyone, of any age, and they can take a good picture of you.

Recommend this camera to anyone with a passion for good pictures..definitely not bottom of the barrel camera.

Always changing batteries

I have the continuting problem of low batteries with this camera. I have heard many times that Canon is a good camera, but I am very disappointed. It seemed to work fine in the beginning, but just kept getting worse. As soon as I put in new batteries and take one picture, the camera shuts off and says "change batteries". Sadly, I could not take a picture of my son's first day of school because of this problem. :(
Cons: no battery life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

this is my second power shot, old one still works fine 6 yrs. just cant get 1gbite memory cards anywhere so i bought a power shot 1000is love it still use old a400 trying to corner the market on 1 gb memory cards, also showed & recommended a1000is to my friend he got one also. very simple to use,24 7 costomer service line and all american help.
