A Dream Come True

Excellent for all ages. Easy to use and really appreciate the memory card included to try a few pics out at first . . . or use as that emergency backup for that unexpected special picture. Advise to beginners, buy your memory 2GB+ memory card immediately as you will "Love" this camera without the worry of running out of or changing rolls of film. I can take pictures myself or setup my tripod and go all night long. I have been taking pictures for 35+ years and this camera is perfect for beginners, children, and even grandparents like myself. Large crystal clear LCD Screen, 10.0 Mega Pixels, Face Detection and Red-eye are terrific especially the 4xOptical Zoom. The Image Stabilizer allows pictures to be crystal clear and avoid that blurry look. Great in low light situations. This camera almost takes the pictures itself. I use for all occasions personal and professional. This is a quality camera that is compact, can easily be kept in a ladies purse or attached to a gentlemen's belt buckle, even a fanny pack for those teens. I have already recommended to all my family and friends. I absolutely Love this Camera. Thank you Canon.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great, quality camera

I purchased this camera to take pictures on my vacation in California and I am very satisfied with its ease and performance. I mainly stayed in Auto Mode and had no problems. The camera was fairly simple though I do recommend reviewing the basic instructions. My friends were very impressed with the quality of the pictures compared to their more expensive camera. The viewfinder did come in handy on very sunny days, The batteries that came with it lasted a couple of days, I switched to lithium and that pair has taken more than 100 images so far and is going strong.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: Missing features/settings, not able to force flash on
I would recommend this to a friend!

I'm glad I bought another Canon!

Replacing my old Canon A75 PowerShot which lasted 4 years and took almost 3000 photos. Loved it! New model is smaller and lighter weight and takes only 2 AA batteries. Looked at the other brands too but I really like the view finder which I used several times on the old model when it was tough to see the screen. My hubby has another brand and is constantly charging his camera -- all I do is take extra AA's along! I've had my new camera 3 days now and I really love it -- even more than the A75. Easy software installation onto my computer makes printing photos a snap! More features than the old model too (including an "Easy" setting to just point and shoot) and when you compare what you get to the other models, this is a MUCH better deal. Highly recommend!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, cost, "easy" setting

I did a lot of research before deciding on the A1000is and I couldn't be happier with my choice. The camera is extemely easy to use and takes amazing pictures. It has wonderful features for the price. The only negative thing I can say about it is that the flash takes a while to recharge and the battery life is pretty short. I switched to lithium (vs alkaline) in hopes of longer life. Overall, this is a fantastic camera and I am extremely pleased with it.
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life

Great Hiking Camera
on January 6, 2009

This camera survived a 90 mile hike on the AT. I took a lot of pictures and videos, with the temperature dropping as low as 9 degrees, if not lower. Uploading large videos is hard to do, though, if possible - I had one large video (about 30 minutes long - 3+ gigs) that wouldn't upload, althought the other ones would. The battery lasted the whole trip (6+ days) and even more after it.
The arm band that came with it, though, is not as convenient as a neck band.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: uploading large videos is hard if possible

Very Sturdy

I have dropped this camera twice on hard concrete from around a meter in height and the camera didn't even get a scratch. It is very sturdy.
One this that was was disappointed by is that you can't manually focus. I purchased a Canon a510 around 3 and a half years ago and that camera had manual focus. This seems like a step backwards.
Manual focus is good for low light conditions and for checking to make sure that the automatic focus has focused correctly.

The one feature I like about this camera; is that it has a viewfinder. You don't find this feature on competitor cameras in this price range. This allows you to conserve your batteries because the LCD is not on all of the time.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
