first digital camera

takes good quality pictures for a non-professional. very easy to use. I have 2 main complaints. With the flash on it takes a long time to take the second picture, but if the flash is off it has hardley any delay. And the memory card is not easy to remove. It is located in the same compartement with the batteries and the door seems flimsy and hard to get alligned just right without breaking. one other small complaint is the LCD is hard to see when outside in sunlight. Overall the camera takes good quality photos and can't complain for the price.
Pros: easy to use, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: Dim LCD, Flimsy Construction
I would recommend this to a friend!

I like the camera but it uses too many batteries. I bought the rechargeable batteries and it still goes through them really fast. This is the only reason I don't like the camera. It was the worst decision I made when I bought this camera.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A little disappointed

This is my third digital camera. I will try to be unbiased and organized in my observations:
Features: the manual settings are scaled down very much as compared to previous compact Canons. So, don't expect a very useable manual function. I find the AA batteries a plus as compared to the expensive proprietary batteries. I got about 100-150 shots per set of rechargeable batteries wich is fine with me. The LCD screen is as low quality as in the previous models. The video function is minimal, it is not HD quality.
Performance: It is easy to use in its auto mode by beginners. It will take good night pictures if you know what you do. It also has the optical image stabilization that helps when you shake the camera while taking a picture, or if you shoot at moving targets. However, I was a little disappointed with the overall quality of the picture. The image is not very sharp, and I really couldn't use the camera at ISOs higher than 100 because I would start getting grainy images at ISO200.
Price/Value: Unfortunately, this is a low end camera at par with other low end cameras on the market. I feel that price should be about $50 lower.
Quality: Everything works, however, I was surprised at the camera casing that does not appear to me to be very strong. I could bend it with my fingers.
Satisfaction: A little disappointed. Canon has a history of making better cameras than this.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Good Low-Light Performance
Cons: Missing features/settings, Poor image quality, Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My A1000 IS does not take sharp pictures. Images seem to be out of focus, especially on the left side of images. Now I must incur time and expense to send in the camera for repair.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings
Cons: Poor image quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This was my Birthday present from my wife. She couldn't have chosen better. I'm extremely happy ! I had thought that downloading was somewhat confusing with the supplied digital camera solutions disk, but then found the pictures easily transfered to iPhoto on my iMac. Beautiful pictures.
Pros: easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

I really do like this camera but find that it uses too many batteries. Very low life in the battery use which makes an impact on our Environment. If you purchase this camera make sure you always carry a 12 pack with you and I don't mean beer! I have missed several good shots of my 92 year old Aunt with her neices/nephews because the batteries were done.
Pros: Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!

Unacceptable faults

Most features are ok, except for a couple of details. The lens has terrible barrel distortion at 1x zoom. It will only save date on picture at 2MP resolution. Don't need a 10MP camera for these. Cost is way too high for camera with this performance.
