The warmer does not stay on, so a thermal carafe is absolutely necessary to keep coffee warm after brewing.

Don’t forget to turn grind off if you use a ground coffee which I do during work days. I pay a lot for my whole beans and want time to enjoy. I leave on strong brewing as the light is way too light wish there was a medium. The pop out for the basket seems a bit off like it was bent or something as it doesn’t shut unless you put a slight pressure to push down. It’s not the best Cuisinart coffee maker I’ve had but it cost more for sure. I’m not finding it’s worth it. I like the grind on my burr Cuisinart grinder better than on this pot.

I returned it because the coffee wasn't hot enough, the pause and brew didn't work properly and it was nearly impossible to pour the coffee out of the carafe without it spilling.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
