Great beginner camera

This is my first SLR and I love it! I just started getting into photogrophy but this camera is great for first time digital SLR owners. It's pretty easy to use but you HAVE to read the manual if you want to use all of the cameras features and are not already farmiliar with them. I actually had to read a some parts a couple of times in order to fully learn how to use the camera's settings. One of the only cons is that the lens it comes with has a limited zoom and higher zoom lenses can sometimes be very expensive. But overall it's a great camera and I would highly recomend it.
Pros: excellent image quality, good battery life, Nice features/settings, pretty easy to use
Cons: can't autofocus in live view, takes a while to get used to some of the settings, limited zoom lens
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love this camera so much. I bought it as my first dslr and have loved it ever since. I've had it for little while and taken over 3000 pictures with it and have nothing but positive things to say. The only thing i have found is a little lacking is the iso capabilties. (only goes up to 1600) Other than that great camera. Put a grip on it and get a speedlight and you wont need anything more. Love it and hope to have it for a while. Welll Worth the money
Pros: good price easy to figure out over all great came
Cons: iso height

I'm impressed

I had wanted a D-SLR for quite some time, but thought it was too expensive. Then an internet site had these bodies on sale. I already had lenses from my Rebel SLR, so I jumped. For me, there is a learning curve going from film to digital, and I am still dealing with it. And the lenses I have probably leave a lot to be desired. But from what I've done so far, I am really impressed. Colors seem really bright, and the images are as sharp as can be. The pre-programmed settings seem to do the trick as well, for the most part. I did have to go totally manual (except for the AF) when I was shooting my niece in an ice skating competition. Not being able to use flash and not having a wide lens, I cranked up ISO up to 1600, blasting away about six shots at a time, hoping that about 20% would come out decent. I was pleasantly surprised when that figure turned out to be more like 60%. Granted, you won't see them in Sports Illustrated, but for me they were just fine!
I am still having some issues with the AF. It's picking the wrong focal point at times and I'm not catching it. And once in a great while it's just not responding fast enough. But I have given this camera three or four good workouts already, and she hasn't failed me at all.
Pros: excellent image quality, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: Dim LCD, stock lens

Wise Decision

A professional photographer friend of mine said this would be a good start for me coming from a point and shoot. I was tired of shutter delay and limited options for shots and glass.
I bought just the body and he sold me one of his professional lenses that he no longer used. I am in love with this camera! I am sure the lens made a big difference too. Having had a film Canon SLR in the past I am still finding all the new things this camera has to offer. It does so much, I recommend getting a book or really reading your manual. My problem is I can't remember where everything is, so Amazon offers some "cheat" cards that can hang from your case or camera strap that are very useful, too. Take a day and just play with it and enjoy the great shots you will get!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, quiet, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: Complicated controls/menu

Excellent Quality Photos

I upgraded from the Canon Rebel T2 35mm to the Canon XS. I inquired from Canon Customer Support if my lens from the 35mm would work with the XS. I received a yes answer promptly from customer service. Along with another great fact that my Canon 200 Speedlight was also compatible. The Canon XS was easy for me to operate since I was already using the Rebel. I was amazed at the quality of the photos. I was equally pleased by the results in taking A-DEP mode photos. I highly recommend this camera.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: no protection cover for lcd when not in use

This camera was my first digital camera and although I take an interest in photography, I don't have alot of experience with SLR cameras. So I don't understand a few of the functions. But what I have learned is awesome! My favorite shots are close-ups of flowers. Recently I also took some pictures for my nephews wedding and they looked amazing.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
