One Fine Image Catching Gun!

Purchased the camera last July 3 and have already shot around 4500 plus shots in less than a month. This is my first DSLR and a friend recommended it that I buy this particular unit as a practice device.
I love taking photos of diecast metal scaled model cars and this camera give "like a pro" result. It is very sharp just by using the already provided lens (kit lens); I added more fun when I also purchased the 75-300mm lens as a package.
What I love the most with this one is the "Picture Style" feature. With the press of a button the camera can digitally and immediately adjust appropriate sharpness, contrast, color tone, and saturation depending on your shooting needs. This works particularly best if you shoot at extremely hazy shooting environments that badly affect lighting even when its bright (such as noon time).
I am only saddened that "Picture Style" modes only function if you're on the "creative zone" of the camera and will not work with the "full auto / auto" shooting modes. So if you preset a particular "picture style" setting, chances are you'd move to the "creative zone" of the camera - - which unfortunately, that I as a beginner, is having a hard time to learn as of the moment.
OVERALL, that is just small disadvantage. A full switchable DSLR and Point and Shoot Camera is what I can best describe this camera. Use "auto modes" to shoot the camera for very quick candid snap shots, so as not to miss any moment while keeping DSLR quality to the max, on the other hand, setup a tripod, setup a studio, and turn the dial to "creative zone" and begin shooting sessions like a pro...
Not to mention how compact, lightweight, and easy to bring this Cannon, I mean CaNon around...
LOVE THIS CAMERA! YEEHAW!!!
Pros: "picture style" is an instant image enhancer!, turn the "dial" to switch from hobbyist to pro!
Cons: "picture style" feature works for "auto" only

Great Father's Day present

Having played around with a regular film (35mm) camera for years, this was purchased for me to bring me to the current decade.
I like that I can either play with it in its creative modes to express my artistic side or use it like a simple point and shoot camera and most of the results are great. Obviously I can, and do, botch some of them.
It is light and small enough for me to handle correctly (most cameras tend to be too bulky for my small hands), and the features are accessible without having to burrow too deeply into the menus.
I'm also very content that it does not take video images .. I use the camera to capture a single moment.
I like that it has features (using the metering systems, playing with focus points, and the previously mentioned creative modes) that I can "grow" into as I become more adept at using the camera but the choices and functions available do not overwhelm me.
My one drawback for the camera is the price of the OEM add-ons which can be expensive but I think that is probably true for all DSLR's.
Pros: light and not bulky, many feature choices, great picture quality
Cons: expensive add-ons

1st DSLR

This is my first DSLR to purchase and I am very satisfied with it. Obviously this is the low end of Canon DSLR's and I wasn't expecting to go out and get a top of the line camera to begin with. This is a great step up from the point and shoot we've all had and not been satisfied with. Obviously this isn't for a career photographer but it can be great for an occasional user like myself. If you are looking to increase the quality of your photos but not spend too much money, the Rebel XS is the way to go.
Also, before the camera shipped, Canon called to confirm my shipping address. That was unexpected and very appreciated.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings

I have been using this camera for about 2 years. This is my first DSLR and I have learned a ton. This camera is great for BEGINNERS. I take a lot of pictures of birds in flight to sports, so I am going to upgrade to a newer Canon because I need faster FPS and a bigger buffer. The 10 mp is great, and have not had any IQ problems. One thing that has really annoyed me is the buffer and the RAW shooting. Unfortunatly, you cannot shoot at 3 fps with RAW. Which is dissapointing, because sometimes, you do have to edit highlights, and brightness, cropping etc. because of your shooting conditions. The LCD isn't the best, but it is still very usable. Sometimes the AF doesn't focus fast enough for me, and what I do, but for stills, and beginners, it is excellent. The XSi is also great, but to save money, and get a DSLR thats just as good, go for the XS. Very pleased with the XS.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Dim LCD

This is a great camera I just got it today after reading the reviews and decided to try it out. It's not too heavy and the neck strap doesn't hurt when you use it, the quality is great but it a bit confusing to use at times then again this IS my first DSLR camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: noisy, Complicated controls/menu
I would recommend this to a friend!
