Being a Sony nut for years, I thank my wife for such beautiful present presenting me with a CANON. EOS REBEL XS. It's very user friendly and every picture hits the target.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

Great camera out of the box, very easy to use in automatic mode. Lots of professional fetures available in the creative modes. They are very easily learned by exploring the camera by taking lots of pictures. I have previously owned a Canon AE1 35mm film camera which was remarkably similar in its operation. I am favorably impressed with the photos taken with this camera.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: none

If you are looking for a good starter DSLR to get into the "field" then look elsewhere. This camera will have you shaking your head and running in circles. Not to mention the malfunction issues, and constant error codes. If you are used to using a rear display, digital "point and shoot" then you are in for a rude awakening. The "features" talk about a well lit, bright, easy to see, good sized LCD display, but what they DONT tell you, is that you cant view the image you are trying to shoot on the LCD dispay until AFTER you shoot it. Isnt that what and LCD is primarily for? Viewing? Luckily, I have a 17 yr old 35mm EOS Rebel that still works well. The basic functions are the same, and I'm used to using the small view finder. If you are used to DSLR's, and perhaps looking to upgrade a cheaper, or older model, then this is probably a good purchase. If it's your first DSLR....big mistake. This new camera has been in the shop more than its been in my hands. I bought this REBEL Xs more than 3 weeks ago, and I've only had it in my physical posession for about 5 days. The rest of the time it's been in the shop. I'm very close to throwing in the towel and getting a refund. I guess I should have read all these reviews myself before making my purchase. Apparently I'm not the only one having mechanical issues This camera is a big dissapointment for a Canon owner of over 30 yrs.
Pros: Bright LCD, quiet
Cons: Complicated controls/menu
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Canon XS in my opinion is a darn good buy. The model XSi allows you to add a cordless remote where the XS your stuck with a corded remote. Unlike a wife it has an OFF switch that is handy.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, it's mine!
Cons: hard to stop using!

It acctually can be heald responsible for me going to college and going after a degree in Photographic Imaging. Thank you so much for such a great product!
