Awesome Camera!

I have had my Rebel xs for almost six months now, and I LOVE it! I have seen a lot of reviews from other people complaining that the XS is small and feels too lightweight, but as an average sized woman (5'6") with average size woman hands this camera fits me. It feels natural and comfortable, but still solid and not at all cheap. My husband, who is 6'5" is also comfortable shooting with my camera, though I don't let him very often because I have it with me all of the time. I would highly recomend this camera to anyone. I have been taking photography classes and reading my manuel and have learned things I didn't realize were possible with such an inexpensive Canon DSLR. Buy it!
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

Takes amazing pictures, even when using the automated functions. I have no photography experience and people keep commenting on how fantastic my pictures are. This camera is well worth the money. I am very happy with this purchase.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, easy to use

Good Camera but a Couple of Downfalls
on December 23, 2010

I bought this camera about six months ago for personal use and for trips. I was really excited to get it and take some amazing pictures, but I was surprised when i actually started using it. The pictures usually do turn out the way I want them to, but sometimes the capturing of the picture seems to lag. As you zoom in closer, the "clicking" goes slower. This causes the picture to become blurry. Rather than that, I dont have any complaints and this is a pretty good camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: slower picture taking at times

Happy with it...to a point

I have been taking photography classes for a couple years at my school and I was SOO excited to be getting a professional digital camera for my birthday. I was looking at Canon ONLY. I have had very positive experiences with Canon and its quality is unmatched. So when I was given my Rebel XS I was very happy, but now that I have started using it more I have really started noticing how irritating it is to try to take quality pictures with without having to photoshop too much. The flash is absolutely worthless and you would think that you can just turn it off, but it's not that simple. You can turn it off on the dial and have no other setting or you can press the button underneath the flash but ten you don't know whether it's still on or off. Then once you turn off the flash and try to take a picture indoors, the shutter speed is ridiculously slow and your pictures are blurry.
I really wish that I didn't spend so much for this camera. And I'm hoping that once I get more familiar with it. It will get better but as right now it just frustrates me and I don't really want to take pictures with it.
Pros: good battery life, Quick Start-up time, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu
Cons: Shaky operation, Missing features/settings, Poor image quality, noisy, flash is worthless

Most Excellent Purchase Ever

I am very pleased with this camera! Prior to this one I had the Canon PowerShot IS5, which was a great camera as well but it lacked a few things I wanted in a camera. The Rebel XS completes me. This camera has excellent image quality and is very easy to use! I reccomend this camera to everyone and have already to several friends that are in the market for cameras. This camera brings out the best in every photo.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

Mine Died after 30 min of usage
on September 19, 2010

When I received this camera, I should have returned it...but, I thought that being new at trying to figure out all the features, I must have done something wrong. But after practicing using all the features to see what this camera was capable of doing--picture quality was great. I took about 60 pix in all. Then my son who came to visit, I wanted a picture of him with his dad and the camera shut off and died again. I took out the battery and recharged it thinking that was the problem. It indicated it was fully charged. I put it back in the camera and it would turn on then before I could snap the pix, it died. At least it worked to download the pix I did take before dying again. Very disappointed as I always loved Cannon due to their quality dependable products. This Camera is a big disappointment and regret not spending the money to fix my old Canon camera instead of purchasing a new one. (I did not keep the battery in the camera when not using as manual stated.) Always have a hard time opening & closing the battery department on the camera.

I have had this camera for over a year now and it is great!!! Takes the best pictures I rarely use my Adobe CS4 for corrections on pictures take with this camera. My only issue is I wish I would have waited for the newer model with the Video capability. And It was extremely high in price. The worst thing about the camera is the price. But I paid for it and am very happy with it.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: high price
