Couldn't Get Any Better...
on January 17, 2010

I am a beginner in photography and I have to say that this camera is a top choice. It has some getting used to but once you've become familiar with it, you start to take pictures like no other and have enough battery for it. I went 3 days with out charging the battery and it was still full. Although I wouldn't recommend this for anyone who wants a quiet camera because when you take a picture, it makes a loud shutter sound and it doesn't have many features. Other than that, this is a great camera.
Pros: good battery life, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use

Satisfaction in XS!

Like many have already stated here, I'm loving everything about this camera, and I haven't really done anything yet. This is my first DSLR and it replaces a Nikon CoolPix 8700 which I thought was pretty cool. When I shopped around for a DSLR, Nikon had the edge, but the Canon Rebel XS fills the sweet spot in the DSLR spectrum in my opinion. Couldn't beat the value for the price and because of its features and functions, I think this camera will be with me for some time. Got it just in time for a trip to Hawaii next month so will get real familiar with my XS. Also picked up the 55-250mm IS lens since I'll be doing some landscapes and sports shooting. For anyone wanting to dive into the XS as fast as possible I suggest the following book: The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS/1000D Companion by Ben Long. Good luck everyone and enjoy!!
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, canon!

THE BEST THING I EVER OWNED
on October 21, 2009

A history of canon cameras run in my family. By far canon is the best quality guaranteed. My father owned a AE-1 and I saved and saved to purchase the Canon Rebel XTi. The picture quality is amazing, the camera reliable and more than investment. My Xti was recently stolen from a car break in. Although cheaper alternatives are out there, nothing compares to the quality Canon provides. I plan to purchase this camera although I have to save up for it (I'm a student) without a doubt in my mind I know it will be a great purchase. The Canon AE-1 my dad bought in the 80's still works without a flaw, proving Canon provides only the best. I recommend any Canon camera to everyone.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, wonderful

Wish it had a wireless remote
on August 3, 2009

I did not realize the camera has no wireless remote capabilities. Big disappointment. Missing a few other features as well but not as big of a deal as remote to me. I have had issues losing photos on the memory card, shutting down and having to take the battery out in order to get it to power up again and hard to select auto focus points. I find it faster to manually focus. Pic quality is very good
Pros: excellent image quality, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

Nice camera, but...

I am a photojournalist, mostly for sports and I am very satisfied with this camera. Not just for sports, but for family photos as well. The 10 MP resolution is really nice for making panoramic photos. The only problem is that it performs horrible in bad light, unless you have flash on. But, in my experience, people often close their eyes in reaction to the flash, and it annoys people.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, works well with macs
Cons: noisy, Heavy/Bulky, performs poorly in bad light, flash extremely bright

This is an amazing camera I have had it for about a week now and took over 1200 pictures so far. This camera is an amazing entry level camera and super easy to use. Live view is not a favorite but its growing on me. I recommend a Speedflash for it though.
