I love it!

I received my camera as a Christmas gift, and I absolutely love it. I do a lot of outdoor photography, and have been very pleased with the results. I love being able to switch between full auto and other modes with just the turn of a switch. The image stabilizer works wonderfully, and the battery life is fantastic. The only caution I would give is for first-time SLR users. If you're used to using the LCD as a viewfinder, be warned you will have to get used to using the actual eyepiece to shoot well with this unit. I'm an old hand at using film-type SLRs so I'm used to it, but I can see where it could be disconcerting to a newcomer.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, easy to use
Cons: may confuse first-time slr users

Great Camera for first SLR

This is a very nice digital SLR. Takes outstanding photos and is easy to use. Camera operation is very fast and battery life is outstanding. Has the best high ISO in its class and Canon has the best lens selection. hard to go wrong.
My only complaints so far are that the RAW burst mode is slower than even the 5 year old original Rebel, and the grip could be more comfortable and not as narrow. All in all the best camera in its class and price range
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: slow bursts, grip too small

Another Great Canon EOS Camera

I have owned a Rebel G 35mm camera for over 10 years and have built up quite a collection of lenses and filters for it. I knew that eventually it would become increasingly difficult to find film and places to process it. So, I decided a couple of years ago to move into the 21st century and purchase a digital camera. I started with a PowerShot A560 to get a "feel" for digital. Afterall, it can be dificult to teach an old dog new tricks. I was very pleased with the quality photos it produced, so I decided to jump into a DSLR, and of course I chose the Rebel XT. I was pleased to find out that I could use all my Rebel G lenses on the XT, and that the controls are nearly identical to those on the PowerShot. My old lenses don't have the image stablization feature of the XT lens, but that is what tripods are for. Overall, I am very pleased with this camera and recommend it for beginners as well as old 35mm Canon SLR users.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

Best Budget DSLR

Honestly, this is the best for it's price. You get all of these features for such a great price. I started out as a beginner when I bought this camera, and it's already been 4 months since I've had this camera. This camera is great, however, I can already feel myself growing out of it. Considering how technology is further advancing, I feel as if this camera is already getting "outdated" considering its lack of features. The one thing I hate about this camera is it's 2.5" screen and poor build quality. The camera is able to produce top notch quality images and doesn't disappoint. If anyone is serious in getting into photography, I would highly recommend the next step the XSi or the 50D (skipping the T1i).
Pros: Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, affordable
Cons: Missing features/settings, Poor build quality, noisy, Short battery life, small lcd, poor handling
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My First DSLR

I resisted Digital for as long as I could then started with this. WHAT WAS I WAITING FOR ?? This is a great camera for starting out in digital photography. The weight and size are good for taking on trips (especially taking it in my motorcycle) and the images are good. It was easy to learn to use. The performance has been flawless so far (18 months) and I not expecting any problems. You might never want to go past this camera, but I had several friends that had more expensive models and the pictures are better. I love this camera and will keep it for traveling and places where another bigger camera would be hard to use. The Canon name has always been associated with quality as far as i am concerned and do not complain about the price of good quality. You get what you pay for in quality equipment. A camera well worth using as far as I am concerned.
Pros: good weight, easy to use, wide variety of lenses
Cons: a little noisy
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great camera

I used a rebel XT for 4 and a half years without a single problem. It traveled with me in a lot of rough conditions and survived beautifully. The case has taken a beating over the years and looks a little worse for the wear, but image quality and performance never suffered. The case is far sturdier than you'd expect looking at it. I took 300 photos on a week long Kenyan safari on a single battery charge (with a four year old battery), dragged the camera through the Rwandan rainforest in search of mountain gorillas, hiked in the Moroccan, Jordanian, and Egyptian deserts, and spent two years in the Ethiopian highlands, plus many European excursions - my rebel documented all of it flawlessly. I'd recommend the camera to anyone looking for gorgeous photos with minimal effort. The camera performed beautifully in all areas - action shots, portraits, children, animals, scenery, low light settings, etc. It's a great camera for anyone, but especially for those looking for a quality, good value, travel friendly camera. It's small and light, so you don't feel weighed down by a bulky bag but still get great photos. It's going to be a sad day when this camera finally bites the dust, but I've long since gotten my money's worth.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
