I started college last year and i bought this camera so i could finally get started on my photography business... This is by far the best starter camera in the world.. its easy to use easy to learn about, just easy everything... the quality is pretty good ( of course, if you are a serious photographer you will want to get other lenses) but the lens it comes with is really great! This camera is perfect...
oh and absolutely WONDERFUL battery life.
there is one con...its a tad bit to noisy for me, but, with all the other pros....its well worth it.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: noisy

great BEGINNER camera

I am writing this for someone who is new to dslr's and a beginner. I purchased this to learn about photography and dslr's. I have a point and shoot that I love, but I wanted to move forward in my hobby and learn. I started out knowing nothing beyond point and shoot. Yes photography involves learning and reading. So get this camera if you want to learn and take great pictures. This camera has nice features and excellent picture quality IF YOU take the time to learn it. It is not a point and shoot even though it does have the "training wheels" (portrait, closeups, landscape, etc") buttons. I get a bit upset when I hear people saying they have blurry pictures or it wont do what they want. Are you trying to take pictures in too little light? Holding the camera the proper way? (Yes it is a proper way I found out). It takes excellent outdoor pictures. It takes excellent indoor pictures when you know about lighting, aperture, speed (yes I learned). Take TONS of pictures! I purchased the "field guide" book (online and CHEAP) to learn how to use this camera and get the most out of my money. Why buy a dslr just to use it as a point and shoot? The only "cons" is that if you dont know something about photography to begin with, the manuels, menus and controls seem difficult. The intructions could be geared towards a total photography beginner. Also, when getting into photography, addons and bells and whistles are pricey! Better lens, flashes, remotes....all are somewhat pricey. In the end, I love my Canon and wished I had enough money for the pro stuff and bells and whistles!
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: extra bells and whistles pricey, instructions/manuels need be clearer

Excellent Camera For The Price

I have no cons for this camera because for the type of camera it is with the feature set it has it is the best in it's class. This is a rock solid camera and I have used it for everything from weddings to portraits to vacation pictures and it does it all well.
I am a photography student and have done some professional work using this camera and received high praise. I will be stepping up to a T1I or 50D in the near future and will keep my XS as a great backup camera
I have rated this camera Good to Excellent. The Good ratings only reflect the fact that Canon has better cameras. I have also bought a Canon 70-300 lense and a 28-135. I have no compunctions about showing up to any photo shoot with this camera.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, nicely priced, live view

Best Digital Camera I've Owned
on January 10, 2010

I got this camera for my birthday last year and have already taken over 4800 pictures in about 10 months. It is a very easy camera to use. Once you learn the basic controls, everything is logically arranged and easily accessed. I love the custom controls that allow you to change the ISO and aperture settings. I use it primarily for bird photography with a 300 mm zoom lens. The AF does get confused sometimes when shooting a bird on a tree branch, but I just switch to manual focus and the problem is solved. It's a very quick camera to recover and shoot the next photo. On my last camera I had to wait about 4-5 seconds between shots. The XS allows me to keep shooting to capture the subtle differences in the bird stance on the branch.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Great camera ! I can't say enough. I've read alot of cons..I see none ! Type A people are never impressed and always want something better, don't let them rain on your parade. My experience - this camera is awesome and takes pics like the eye sees it..EXACTLY. Most times even better, especially in the case of Astrophotography. My only con is it's billed as a beginner cam...When it absolutely smokes alot of the TOP of the line ones from only 5 years ago..I just don't know how much better it could be - It is light, functional, quiet, fast and best of all takes amazing pics that are super clear ! 5 stars.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, low noise on long exposures, ultra clear lens and great color., live view is great for astrophotography!, fast picture download

EOS Rebel Review
on February 15, 2010

As a starter camera, the EOS Rebel XS is really great. Easy settings control and use make it non-threatening to people who are new to DSLRs. It also takes a great picture, and has some nice advanced features, but if you really put it through it's paces, you will find the limitations start to chafe after a while.
I've been using my XS for a little over a year now, with 2 different lenses, (the 18-55mm lens that came in the kit, and a 3rd party 75-300mm zoom lens) and I've enjoyed learning on it. In full auto mode, the camera takes excellent snap shots, and as I got more comfortable with it, the advanced settings allowed me to expand my picture taking to new levels including some outstanding outdoor photos and some flash photography.
If you are just interested in snap shots, you'd probably be better off getting a point and shoot camera. If you are interested in learning, this is a great camera to start on, (especially the price), but if you are an accomplished amateur or semi-pro, you'd be best served putting up the extra money for a more advanced camera.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings

This is an excellent product. You will be able to use it with ease right out of the box, but for the more advanced user it has more sophisticated features. It's not the XSI, but this is great for someone new to the dSLR world. If your trying to figure out if you want to buy this camera I suggest you do, you won't be disappointed.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

Just starting out in D-SLR photography.. This camera makes the transition a breeze.. I was taking nice (non-auto mode) shots right out of the box. I bought the EF-S 55mm-250mm IS lens to go along with. I highly suggest you get that lens to addon to this camera....great images...
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: Poor build quality
