I bought this camera in hopes that it would be easy to use, a good deal for its price, and very well built. It entirely fulfilled all of the criteria. I'm a 13 year old photography enthusiast, and I've been taking photos since I was 10. This is the second camera from Canon that I've bought, realizing that it is a good company. The quality of the photos is amazing. However, it took me a while to get the hang of how to use it. Once I'd done that, I really enjoyed using it. I will definitely be buying from Canon again.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: noisy, Slow Start-up time, Complicated controls/menu

When I first bought this camera, I didn't know if I would like it. DSLRs are pricey, but it was totally worth it. I photograph nature our farm, and with a good telephoto lens, you can do about anything. I am a little worried thought, because once, when I was using it, it just shut off, and I couldn't get it back without having to blow in the battery slot to get it to work. For those of you who photograph wildlife, if you are just about to take a picture of a bird or something, and your camera just shuts off, you don't have time to take out the battery and put it back in the slot. But, don't let me make you not buy this camera, because that was about the only bad thing that happened to me. Plus, If your are on the edge of buying this camera, go for it. It is totally worth it.
Pros: fast lightweight and easy to use
Cons: a little unpredictable

I've had this camera for about a year. It was my first dslr and it served me well for about the first 6 months. However, I soon began to outgrow it and now I'm desiring some more advanced features and camera functions. A lot of people have told me they've experienced problems with the camera shutting off or losing files. I did on one occasion lose about a half dozen files which was frustrating but that was the only time it happened. Some of the functions are hidden deep in the menu and it would be nice if they were more available. I've had no issues with build quality, although it is on the heavier side. The image quality is about what you would expect with this camera, the colours tend to be a little duller than I had hoped. I have noticed that the controls could be a bit more intuitive, especially because it is a beginner camera. The limited ISO range is kind of a dissapointment, although it is by no means a mark IV. Overall, the camera doesn't have anything severely wrong with it, but I might recommend throwing in a few more dollars for a slightly more advanced camera. Otherwise you may be left striving for more features not long after your purchase.
Pros: good battery life, Quick Start-up time
Cons: Missing features/settings, Difficult to use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is my first EOS camera. It takes Beautiful, Crisp pictures. I pulled the camera out of the box and started shooting. It's full auto option helps Novices like myself be able to do that and still take great pictures. I have taken over 500 pictures and still am on the first battery charge! We love it.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Not just beginners

I have been using Canon Products for over 30 years, and I recently bought this to replace my worn-out Canon F1n (1976 model) 35mm camera.
The transition from 35mm SLR to digital SLR was quick and easy. My only negative comment is that the camera body is too light in my hands, and camera shake is an issue with heavy lenses attached. The Image quality is superior, and the optics can't be beat. When dealing with Digital imaging the megapixels are not the only criteria, the criteria that should apply is what you plan to use the camera for.
This camera fits well with all aspects of photography, and unless you are into extreme esoteric uses it should fit your needs without a problem.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: noisy, Shaky operation

Its a great camera, for what it is. Great pics, focus is sharp,Its everything a person thats just starting out will need . I`d have to say the lens that comes with the camera isnt a great addition to it, its cheap, But it serves the purpose to image everyday shots. I think to benifit the camera would be to toss out the standard lens and buy a better one.. But thats just my opinion.
Pros: excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, Quick Start-up time, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, makes a great grab and go camera
Cons: lens isnt that great
