I finally took the step to follow my dream of being a photographer and I purchased the EOS Rebel XS. I could not have asked for anything better. My mind is now working overtime because there is so many possibilities with this camera. The build of this beauty is strong and ruggid and I have no fear it will ever break down as long as I respect it. I highly recommend this camera!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

This is my first SLR camera and I am not disappointed at all. I've been playing around with it and I love it a lot. The pictures are perfect. I'm not done exploring it yet but I'm very happy with what I've known so far. When I turn it on it comes on fast and I don't miss the perfect moment. I'm not into the manual focus yet and the automatic focus is wonderful. The battery does last and that's a plus.
Pros: excellent image quality, Quick Start-up time, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

Great Upgrade to SLR

I own a Canon G5 brought 10 years ago.and a Canon A-1 that is ancient. It was time to come into the nexgen. I am hooked on Canon, so the XSi was my pick. I have been on two extended vacations to South America and to the Caribbean. The shots were awesome. Just reviewing the shots amazing. The battery life never gave out on me through all conditions day and night. The only thing I had to remember was to turn on the AF feature in my lenses. I took a couple of tele shots that were blurred and found MY mistake. It becomes easy to expand your repertoire of features of the camera, other than full auto modes. The camera and lenses were very light and comfortable. I cannot say there are any shortcomings in the XSi for me.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu

Superb First DSLR

Moving from a compact camera to DSLR is always a daunting task but the 1000D with kit lens provides and excellent introduction without costing too much. The body also accepts EF and EF-S lenses so upgrading to faster and better lenses is quick and easy. For most users the missing features (less auto focus points and spot metering etc) will not be missed. After all if you are used to a point and shoot compact then there are enough additions on the 1000D to keep you occupied for ages. The built in picture styles provide very good photos in a point and shoot mode but for more advanced features the override modes allow nearly as much configuration as the more expensive EOS models. The included software allows basic editing and the RAW codec provided is much better than the one supplied by Adobe with Photoshop. In fact the only downside I have so far is the casing being all plastic when the higher models have a rubberised grip
Pros: excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, quiet, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: plastic case with no rubberised finish

I've always been a fan of Canon cameras, from my first FTb to my last Rebel 2000 film camera. I decided to finally go digital with the purchase of my XS. I'm glad I did. The detail in the images is amazing. The built-in flash does an excellent job for most shots. I store most of my photos on my computer and transferring them is as easy as pushing a button.Battery life is very good (but keep a spare) and the settings are well placed and easy to understand. All in all a very good camera that will give me years of enjoyment.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: none

Pros: excellent image quality, Nice features/settings, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: Missing features/settings

Canon Quality at it's best

I have been a Canon Camera user and owner since I got into Photography in the late sixties while serving in the Army in Germany, I have three different 35mm film Canon Cameras, and the Rebel EOS XS is my first Digital SLR. I found the ease of operation, menues very easy to use and understand, the pictures I have taken have been far beyond my expections, but when you own a Canon Camera you learn to expect such quality and performance and would accept nothing more.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, no camera shake
