Use to have a A1 film camera worked great for years then upgraded to this digital and I love the quality of the pictures and the family loves to borrow it for great photos. it has great response to quick situations and has great attachments as needed.
Pros: great lenses, quick response, easy to get use to, great focus
Cons: maybe be "bulky" for instant users

One of my most cherished items.

I have had this camera for 11 years now and it is still taking great pictures. I am buying some updated equipment soon that will have a wider variety of settings (increased ISO range, video capabilities, etc.), but I still plan on using this camera because of how reliable it is. The Canon Rebel line is awesome for beginners (which I was when I first got this one) and professionals (I used this through college for my art degree) alike.

Great Intro DSLR
on November 23, 2008
Posted by: RDems
This is a great intro DSLR, I am new to the SLR world and I am very satisfied. Camera performs very well, easy to use menu, good button layout. I also got the 75 -300mm telescopic Zoom lens, which in itself is a great addition for introduction to the DSLR world. I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone looking to start in the DSLR world. and with the right lens certainly to anybody wanting to maybe start amateur photography.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!

My first D-SLR
on April 10, 2010

from Denver, Colorado
This is my first D-SLR camera. I did quite a bit of research prior to my purchase. I love it. I have a steep learning curve for manual settings so the automatic settings are still getting the most use. Compared to high end point and shoots I tried there is no comparison in consistent photo quality. Every once and a while, over the years, I would get an exceptional shot with a point and shoot. With this camera, though, an exceptional shot is business as usual.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

A no-brainer starter dSLR

For a transitional camera from a point-and-shoot to dSLR this is perfect. The controls are logical, the features are adequate for learning manual controls, and it's speedy enough to avoid being frustrating. Most importantly, the picture quality is excellent. The lack of noise and optical artifacts really is in the next class up of cameras. This is a "starter" camera that most people could be happy with for many years. The quality of materials and bundled software do show where they kept costs down though.
Pros: excellent image quality, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time
Cons: slightly low quality materials

Best camera I've ever had.

The image quality is much better than my S5, with 18-55 lens. Image Stablizer works fine. At low light, good image can be obtained by using flash or tripod without flash.
With EF 24-105 mm lens, the image quality has no difference from that obtained by EOS 5D.
Live View with manual focus is a good design, which is very useful for close-up shooting.
And it has a very good battery life, usually over 1000 shots at one charge. I like this model very much.
For downside, the shutter is noisy when it is working.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: noisy

Great beginner dSLR camera!

This isn't my first SLR camera, but was my first *digital* SLR. I love this camera for all the great features it offers, as well as being lightweight and portable relative to other SLRs in its class. I mostly use the manual settings or the "No Flash" automatic setting, and have taken some incredible images with this camera - a few of which were high enough quality to be used for album covers and press kits. I've taken over 38,000 frames with this camera and the performance has never failed. It's perfect for nature and portrait photography. For sports and action, it's not the best you could get - but additional USM/IS zoom lenses with larger apertures would definitely help with that!
Having always been a fan of Canons and working with them for over 20 years, I would definitely recommend this camera to any user. It's perfect for either amateurs or those looking to learn enough about digital SLR photography before transitioning into a professional realm. It's also GREAT to travel with since it's lightweight, durable and has incredibly long battery life (I shoot on average 400 frames per day when I travel and only need to charge the battery every 3 or 4 days)! The automatic settings are simple and easy to use - it takes a bit more expertise and practice to learn how to program the manual settings, but this is a great camera to use for that purpose! Additionally, it's highly durable - I've dropped this camera 2 or 3 times on concrete floors and no damage was done! I've also shot with the XS in snow and rain, and again - no damage whatsoever! It has a fast start-up and light enough to carry in one hand, so it's also great to travel with!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Dim LCD

Completely Satisfied

I am a newbie to DSLR cameras. When I bought this camera I was unsure if I would like it because it looked a bit overwhelming. After taking it out of the package and playing with it for a few hours I knew how to use it almost flawlessly. The manual gives great tips on using it in both automatic and manual modes! The picture quality is amazing and the auto ISO is perfect! I am completely satisfied with this purchase!
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life, price
