French door set up has advantages!!

My first french door refrigerator. It is more convenient than a side by side as far as room to put trays, a nice feature. Everything is in sight. I like the freezer drawer, easy access for ice a freezer items, well organized. Nice frig!!

The reconfigurable shelves are great. Lighting is a big plus. The French door configuration is really nice. I am really interested in how it holds up over the long term. The only negative I can think of is the compressor noise. Its not really loud but the frequency of the noise is irritating if you think about it all the time and have a very, very quiet house. Over all I can live with it but it would be nice to improve on the noise when the compressor is running.

Don't buy!!!!

We had to replace this refrigerator after less than 3 years. It kept freezing up - the repairman called it "typical 3door problem" and said it was a design flaw and it would freeze up anything the door was open more than 30-60 seconds. He was right - we ended up replacing Christmas Eve with a housefull of guests.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

GX5FHDXVY French door fridge just installed today 12-20-2011 so can't speak about durability. Looks good in my kitchen but can't say much about the quality of the plastic bins inside it. They are very cheap styrene plastic and edgings are poorly fitted. When opening, I'm afraid the fronts will come off in my hand when bins are loaded. I wanted the Satina finish instead of true stainless steel but was told by Lowes that that finish wasn't available. Now I see on this site that the Satina finish is available on this model, so I'm stuck with the constant cleaning that goes with stainless. Since fridge has been plugged in & begun cooling, there is a clunking & popping sound periodically that is coming from the fridge compartment. Hope this stops when it reaches max cool. It's un-nerving. Will give an update after a few months. Haven't hooked up the ice maker yet. So that's yet to be reviewed.

Freeze area gets frosty

I am not sure what is the source of problem, but, noticed that the freezer area gets frosty. I have to empty the freezer and defrost once or twice a month. Otherwise, satisfied with the refrigerator. Owned this for the last 1.5 years

Dead 2.5 years and 4 repairmen later

Headline says it all. Very cheap ice maker that died 3 times. Started making a loud sound one night and quit producing cold air. Repairmen said it was broke, called Whirlpool and they couldn't help. I will never buy another Whirlpool product again.

Great quality product

I love that we could find a Whirlpool without an ice/water dispenser in the door. This is a feature that we would never use and didn't want to waste the space (or money) on. The only reason I rated the design as good instead of excellent is because we would have preferred to have the extra space in the freezer instead of an ice maker. For most people, however, this would not be considered a drawback, so in your case, consider it an excellent design! We love that we no longer have to bend over to get to the bottom shelf of the fridge!

This product has so much room. I love all of the adjustable shelves that enable me to organize everything to suit my needs. Very quiet. I can already notice difference in utility bill. Highly Recomend
