Safe functioned as expected for about 6 years. Opened the safe about 4-6 times per year. In the 6th year, the latch broke as others have described. Buy a different safe with an opening mechanism that doesn't break.

This is my second FHW40100 Fire/Water File. The first one is completely satisfactory, so I ordered another. The second one meets my needs, but has one very annoying problem. It is extremely difficult to open when it is closed tightly. The release trigger must be squeezed with both hands until it barely snaps open. I do not know how, or if, this problem can be remedied. My first one does not have this problem. If it did not have this problem, my rating would be 5 stars.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This item is equipped with a gasket, creating a firm seal which allows it to be water resistant. You may need to apply more pressure on the lid to get it to open or close.
