I had it replaced 3 times and when the hot plate gave out the last time I just gave up and bought a different coffee pot.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Is my third unit and the best one so far. I really like KitchenAid Coffee Makers. The 14 Cup model suits my needs to the letter. When this one reaches the end of it's usefulness I will be getting another. I like how adjustable it is and the design of the new pot. For the money you can't get a better model.

Filter Basket flips open

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely have loved my pot but the filter basket flips open in the last minute or so of brewing. I had this problem shortly after receiving as a gift but failed to report it as it would only happen occasionally. Now it happens all the time and I have had to TAPE the filter basket closed. I contacted customer service and they told me it was out of warranty. How disappointing but I suppose it's my own fault for not reporting it sooner. Otherwise this pot is terrific! Brews good coffee, 14 cups vs 12 cups is nice. I really like the "beep" feature that lets me know when the pot is shutting off.

Door pops open frequently, baseplate had paint coming off after first week! Now takes forever to brew a pot of coffee. Is water filter replaceable or can I clean it some way? Bought display model so I did not get any instructions!
