Best Camera I have owned - without a doubt.

I bought this camera for a trip to China in June 2008. Battery life is phenomenal, took extra battery pack along, and never really needed it! I seldom turned it off, just let it go to sleep, then touch the shutter button lightly, and in 2 seconds you're ready to shoot. Multi-voltage battery charger was a real plus for traveling. Was going to buy another brand of DSLR, but the store was sold out, time was getting short, and this camera had several added features. I learn something new every time I use the camera.
The ability to shoot in very low light conditions without flash is amazing. In deep twilight, can produce photos equal to a cloudy day. I loved my (other brand) film SLR, but this camera makes my efforts look so much better.
Controls are well laid out, and pretty easy to use/figure out with minimal need to refer to the manual for most settings/features. An 18-55mm lens came with it, and I bought a 75-300mm (non-stabilized) lens as well. Well satisfied with both of them.
This camera has helped me make many great images that I could not have otherwise. I had planned to take my film SLR on the trip, but so glad I got the digital SLR. This camera has revitalized my interest in photography.
As an added plus, the XSi uses SD cards as do my other cameras.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

Xsi - Best Camera Ever
on November 24, 2008

I've got my Xsi in March 2008 and have had no issues at all. The speed of focus, quality of picture, ease of use, the camera's ergonomics and battery life are all out standing. I can now take pictures without the anxiety that I've messed it up because this camera is easy to adjust and it basically takes an excellent picture for me. All I have to concentrate on now is the topic. I never thought I'd get this much digital camera power for such a low price.

I bought this camera thinking I knew all the features, I was correct in what I knew, But, This camera has so much more.
With the ability to set up via a pc, interval shots with set exposures and frames.. ie take a shot every 5-99 minutes, with an exposure of auto to 99:59.. remote shot abilities bring about options I never even thought of before.
Produces the most faithful images I've seen in a digital camera.
So many features and possibilities, too much to list !
And lots of accessories available.
I have owned many camera's from top names, this one so far is the best !
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, great balance

Love it

My old point and shoot camera died just as my 3 years old started her ballet lessons. I didn't want to miss capturing all the precious moments so I bought this camera with an 8gb high speed memory card. It cost more than I would have liked; however it was totally worth it. I have tons of shots that would have been impossible to capture with my old clunker. In burst mode, I captured 20+ shots of my 5 year old niece running and jumping into a pile of autumn leaves. Every shots were clear.
I highly recommend getting fast ram because pictures are quite large (4-6 mb each). It takes no time at all with faster ram.
If you can afford it, get a zoom lens. I find it funny that people are complaining about macro photography being blurry. Perhaps using macro lens will solve your problem.
This camera makes it fun to take pictures. Battery last forever. Startup time is practically instantaneous. Menus and controls are very responsive.
The only 2 gripes I have is that it's bigger and heavier then the old point and shoot camera making it hard to lug around while carrying a toddler and a baby at the same time. This obviously is to be expected because it is an SLR. It's like saying a sherman tank is too heavy. It's a tank! Of course it's heavy. Just want to point this out so that new users know what to expect. The second gripe is that randomly, the camera would stall for 5-10 seconds. A "Busy" message appears on the screen. I suspect that this can be corrected with an updated firmware.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Great Camera, Great Price!

I have been wanting to get a digital SLR for years, and finally took the leap. I haven't regretted it one bit, as this camera has exceeded my expectations. I have multiple years experience with film 35 mm cameras, as well as medium format, so it was wonderful to finally have a D-SLR to continue on with my photography on a platform that is the future of photography and that provides me with the creative flexibility that I need.
I bought my XSi with a 18 - 270 mm lens, which has been wonderful simply because it provides me with one lens that does just about everything that I need.
The captured images have exceeded my expectations, and everyday surprise me! This camera has allowed me to use my photographic skills to capture images that are surprising, vivid, and crisp. I do most of my shooting in AV (Aperature Priority) or M (Full Manual), which allows me to control the final image more to my liking than automatic modes allow. I do find that the camera is more designed to be used in the automatic modes, and that some of the controls for manual exposure control are kind of burried in the camera's control buttons. I am sure that this will become second nature with sufficient practice and use of the features within the camera. I really like the feature of being able to select the AF location to ease the focusing and composition process, and help me capture those fleeting moments, that without this feature I would miss, or the shot would not have the right focus.
I shoot mostly in RAW format, and love the capabilities that the Canon Digital Photo Professional (DPP) provides in pre-processing my images. I love the split screen preview mode that allows me to see the lighting, contrast, white balance, etc. differences between the original and the edited image. Additionally, I love being able to apply "filters" (Picture Styles) even after the image has been captured. I have had several portraits where the subject was perfect, but the picture style that I had selected wasn't the best for the lighting conditions. With DPP I was able to change the Picture Style and get the lighting, and white balance that I needed. The EOS Utility provides an easy method for accessing the images on the camera as well as the camera itself, and the camera settings. I am disappointed that deleting images uploaded to my computer cannot be done automatically at the time of the upload, this would help improve the efficiency of my workflow.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, Complicated controls/menu

Best Digital SLR Yet
on November 20, 2008

My Rebel XSi is the third digital camera I've owned and the second digital SLR. This camera has all the features I need and more for the nature and micro landscape photography I enjoy. The 12 megapixel sensor gives me the flexibility to capture images that can be easily cropped and enlarged for printing. The large display makes it easy to see my settings before I take my image. Using SDHC memory cards is also more convenient than the larger CF cards and they are a better value. For the money I don't think you can do better in 2008.
Pros: great value, light weight, High resolution
Cons: miss the control wheel
