All about the lenses

I got myself the Rebel XSI the day after Christmas, I should have waited for the new model in April (April, the new canon models come out) but my last camera broke beyond repair & I needed a replacement right away ~ I didn't have the time to save up for the Canon model I had before but that is alright because this one has fit in nicely ~
I am a jack of all trades (freelance) photographer, most of what I shoot is my own artwork & so far this camera has even held up to my strict standards ~ I only wish it allowed for short video clips & that it had a digital display uptop for settings, remaining photos, etc. ~
Really you do not need to spend more money on the other EOS models unless you want/need more MPs or have the money to spend ~ When you have a good brand (Canon) camera it is all about the lenses & that is where you should spend the big bucks ~
A reviewer before me made a comment about it not taking good macro/ close~up shoots ~ Once again it is all about the lenses ~ Try a good canon macro & or telephoto lens & it should work great I know mine does ~ You can’t blame a good camera if you use a cheap lens ;-) ~ If you are having trouble be sure to read the very informative guides that comes with Canon cameras ~
Pros: excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: no video, no uptop digital display

Still delighted after 5 months

I've been using the Rebel XSi for over 5 months now and I'm still delighted with my purchase. The zoom lens that came with the package that I bought is a nice addition.
The best feedback came from a friend of my wife who knows very little about cameras. After taking some pictures for us at a family event, she asked where I bought it because she wanted the same one. It was incredibly easy for her to use and the pictures that she took were just as good as the professional photographer at the event. She fell in love with it too.
The battery seems to last forever and with an 8GB memory card, I can keep clicking away. I have learned to love the 'continuous drive' mode where you can continue to take pictures as long as you hold down the shutter button. Now, when I take a snapshot, I actually take 3 or 4 in sequence. It's amazing how a split second timing can change a photo. Closed eyes, blur, and background subjects change that quickly.
My last camera lasted me 8 years. I expect that this one will be at least as faithful as that one with all the features jammed into this little beauty.
Pros: excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

Best Canon SLR Yet!!!

I have owned every Canon SLR since the Canonflex came out in 1959. The XSi will replace my two previous DSLRs (XT and XTi). The XSi is a superior product - larger LCD display, quieter and very easy to use. I have only been using this camera for about 2 months, but I have been extremely impressed with the quality of the photos - particularly in low light situations. This camera is even forcing me to update my external flash to a 430EX to take advantage of some of its features. You won't go wrong with this product - Canon continues to hit home runs.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use

Still Very Happy After A Year!

I got my Rebel XSi a year ago and I absolutely adore it. It's a very user friendly camera which is wonderful for the different users in my home. I like having control and the creativity whereas other people like to just be able to snap the picture, so having the creative and auto zones has been a real asset.
The speed of the Rebel is one of my favorite things about it. At 3.5 FPS I have taken so many shots that I know I would have missed otherwise. Beware though, if you shoot with flash often (I don't) it will always slow down the process, usually not very badly, but it can become irritating.
For what I do with photography the Rebel has been a wonderful choice for me and I don't regret it one little bit. The only thing I've ever really wished was more advanced is the AF Point system, mind you the 9 points get me by just fine, but there are the times where I wish there were more points for more sensitivity. There is an obvious solution to this, which is to just use the Manual Focus, but depending on lighting and the movement of the subject that can be tricky to get as sharp.
All in all fantastic camera that I am very pleased with.
Pros: good battery life, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: could use more af points

After using this camera for a month, I find it to be simple, intuitive, easy to handle and capable of exceptional images when quality lenses are used. Even though it may lack a few features available in more expensive digital SLR cameras, it is perfect for my range of use and I couldn't be happier with it.
Pros: image quality, ease of use, price

I have had this camera for several months, but didn't use it much until I went to Germany for 10 days in September. I took over 800 pictures and played around with the different settings to see what they do. I found that this camera has a lot of features! I came home with some great photos that I will really enjoy reviewing and showing to others. Having this camera made the trip a lot more fun, and memorable. I don't have the experience that many others here have, but choosing this camera to make the jump to a DSLR is a choice I am very happy with.
Pros: Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

Canon XSI

After reading a lot of reviews stating the problems with this cameras auto focus, I feel obligated to post MY results. I am not a professional photographer, but have been heavy into photography for 45 years, so I have taken a few pictures! This model has Canons 9 point auto focus system , in which any of the 9 LEDs lights up in the viewfinder to show what objects are in the cameras field of focus. After just moments of use I could see why a lot of people are having problems with the focus system. Note, IF A LED THAT IS OVER THE IMPORTANT POINT OF YOUR COMPOSITION IS NOT LIT IT WILL NOT BE IN FOCUS! I think too many people are blaming the camera when it is the individuals fault for out of focus pictures. It IS a problem sometimes in fast moving shots where composure is quick, where you should use "spot" focus, but for still shots it's not. You simply push the shutter release half way, if the LED over your center of interest isn't lit, release the shutter move the camera slightly and repress the shutter release. If a LED is lit over your subject hold the half way position, recompose go on and complete the shot. I ALMOST didn't buy this camera because of a LOT reviewers complaints about the auto focus system on this model, but I totally think it is an operator error and NOT the fault of the camera. Overall performance it great, and so far every situation I have used it in it has performed better than I had hoped. Reading the instruction book IS A MUST as this camera has a zillion things it can do. You WILL NOT ever learn them without the manual!
Pros: light fast auto controls, creative flexibility, great picture quality, large lcd screne, sd card compatable
Cons: none so far

This Rebel XSi is a great camera for the $. The image quality is breath taking. I like to shoot wildlife and landscapes and the camera noise is minimal. I have a Canon 70mm-200mm L lens and my pics have been fantastic. Soon I hope to have the Canon 17mm-40mm L lens for my Rebel XSi.
You will not be disappointed with this DSLR.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, great with l lenses
