Disappointed

Bought the Rugby 4 about a month ago because my Rugby 3 (2-3 years old) battery was dying. Naively, I assumed the upgraded/new Rugby would be just as good, if not better. Rugby 4 battery turns out to be only slightly better: starts losing charge after only 2 days even with minimal use. Needs recharge after 1-2 longer-than-10-minute calls. The worst feature for me on the Rugby 4 was that I couldn't simply put my old memory card in to transfer my contacts. The small chip was completely different and there was no slot for a larger one (in Rugby 3 there were 2 spaces so either size chip could transfer). This was confirmed by my techno-savvy daughter trying to install contacts for me and finding out the same thing. They "improved" this process by removing it from the phone and making it into an app. The app required my signing off on 45+ points of "agreement" (would need a lawyer to be sure I agree) to install; so I skipped that. There was also something incompatible about the download even if I agreed; so I had to enter my contacts manually. That was not a good use of 1 - 2 hours of my time. Sometimes the sound echoes in a way that makes conversation surreal; this is random and could have to do with caller, but I never had this happen before. Push to talk is silly. Who would ever use that? I hope I disabled that completely. Which brings me to the lack of instructions with the phone. OK, paperless, but seriously, needing to go online with every question is not user friendly. Rugby 4 eliminated some of the individualizing features and added in useless (to me) apps and features, e.g., push to talk. I couldn't personalize this new phone (sound and pictures) as much as I was able on the Rugby 3. I liked my old Rugby for its durability as I am pretty rough on phones. Only time will tell if the Rugby 4 can take the same abuse. So far it seems well put together physically, and I've dropped it a few times without harm. There isn't anything on the Rugby 4 I like better than Rugby 3 because I feel that it is simply not as good a phone; it is a pared down Rugby 3 with quite possibly a retread battery. I am keeping my Rugby 3 just in case the Rugby 4 disappoints on durability. Maybe I can put the "new" battery into the 3 and recommission that if needed?

So far the Samsung Rugby 4 is an amazing phone..it is heavy and tough. Texting is very easy for me, a beginner. This is a better phone for me compared to the Pantech.

I purchased the Rugby 4 about 4 months ago it is durable and reliable and pretty easy to maneuver. The only objection is there is no users manual included so I had to go on-line for help. Other than that it is a durable military grade phone I would recommend to anyone.

From a Rugby phone fan: Don't buy the Rugby 4

I must have a working cell phone for my job. I must have a durable phone for my job. The Rugby series has been the first phone to ever hold up to my job and my lifestyle. I do not need smart phone features, just call and texting ability and durability. I have owned Rugby 1 and two Rugby 2s. I LOVED them. I upgraded to the Rugby 4 with misplaced confidence. Rugby 4 is junk. The phone is durable, but useless if it doesn't stay on. I'm getting ready to send back my 3rd Rugby 4 in less than a year because each device continues to do the same thing - shut off randomly or shut off while I'm in the middle of texting. You read that right - 3RD RUGBY 4 IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR! Each one continues to do the same thing and as much as I loved the Rugby durability, the phone is useless if it doesn't stay on!
I've given up and may just buy a different phone and get a durable case.
