Have used this phone for a few months now. Fear not the T9 texting; adjusted to that within a day. There's something pleasant about real buttons to press. Bluetooth and WiFi work well, no issues. So far much more reliable at sending and receiving texts than my aging smartphone on a competitor's network. Music player works nicely using SD card, even though it is inconveniently behind the battery. Have taken advantage of the ruggedness and used in the bathtub. Battery life is fantastic, charging once a week with heavy (frequent texting, some pics, playing with it to see just what can be adjusted and using alarm & memo tools) usage. Purchased as a phone that would not be so vulnerable to weather to take on trail runs, but considering going low-tech and ditching smartphone entirely.

This phone is used by a professional landscaper that performs hard physical work and withstands hard use. It also stays charged for a long time.

I bought this phone a few months ago (in 2015) and I am sorry I did. The phone itself works inside my "metal building" job site - because it's digital. There is "no button" on the outside of the unit to "send phone calls to voicemail" if I can't answer the phone call immediately. Another problem is "the Operator's Manual' that you can download "online" is "Incomplete" in its' explanations of all the functions of the POUND KEY. I haven't used all the functions of the phone to say if they work or not, but for me and my needs, this phone works BUT Does Not Have one of the important features I need.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Had a rugby 3 that got lost in a pile of snow on my roof. Had to purchase the 4 to the dismay of my wife. Works great great battery life and absolutely waterproof. I jumped in my pool forgetting it was in my pocket and it was completely fine. On a side , when I found the first phone when the snow melted 8 weeks later , I plugged it in to the charger and it came back to life

I just bought the Rugby 4. This is my third one. I have used these for years. When I get a new one it's because the old one is COMPLETELY worn out. I do a lot of farm work. I DO NOT text, don't have time. This phone is very durable and I hope when I have to buy another one, they are still making them.

Missing features of a basic phone
on August 22, 2015

I tried this phone for 1 day. It is missing the numeric pad, "speed dial." (I never learned the press-to-talk feature.) It's texting lacks the "T9Word" format and the ability to insert pre-formated text (template). The phone looked high quality for durability. I wish I could have kept it for that reason, however this phone has a longer learning curve than a simple basic phone.

Old school but fits the purpose!

I had to replace a Sony Ericsson Walkman w580i phone that had problems recognizing the SIM card and therefore was unreliable. Was about 7 years old or more. All I needed was a phone (yes, no smartphone) and needed it to be small and tough. The rugby fit those basic requirements. It has surprised me in terms of standby battery life (going 2 weeks almost since last charge and I have 3 bars on it. It has 4G and wi-fi in case it's needed. The external speaker is particularly loud in case you are in noisy places. Just make sure to adjust when in quiet places or you'll jump. Waterproof (have not tested it) and nice grip. No need for protective gear like with the iPhones. To make this phone better I'd add a 5mp camera instead of the 3MP and would make the outer screen slightly larger. Overall good value for those that need the basics and durability.
