The new design is slimmer than older models. It also holds the electric charge much longer. Also it is much easier to clean under the head.
Pros: slimmer, longer charge power, charges quicker, easier to keep clean.

Regular use of my sonicare toothbrush has definently improved my oral health, both by nearly "professionally" cleaning my teeth with every brushing, as well as stimulating my gums and improving their health. I really enjoy using the massage feature.
The new brush attachment is so much cleaner and nicer than the old one that screwed on.
The only suggestion for improvement I have would be to possibly move the on/off switch closer to the bottom of the handle so I didn't accidentially turn it on or off so easily while brushing.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I thought the redesign where they changed the brush heads was a good idea until the unit failed in less than a year. With the old design you essentially changed the motor every time you changed brush heads which made brush replacement costly. With the change the replacement cost didn't drop dramatically. I'm not sure why, but it could be changing heads in a multiuser household is causing the motor to fail.
In 1 year, 2 handles have stopped working. At least Philips has stood behind their product and replaced both handles. Unless the new handles are different, the unit will have a 2-3 year lifespan.
Also, there's a small metal pin that serves as a safety for the U/V lamp. The pin is actually metal and completes a circuit when the door is closed to allow the light to actuate. If there's any dirt on this pin the light won't work. A switch may have been more reliable but more expensive.
Pros: performance, self sanitizing, easier to keep clean than prior design
Cons: lifespan
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Dentist recommended it and what a difference! Was using the Oral B and thought I was doing a good job brushing - no comparison to the Sonicare. The Hygenist is amazed at the difference in the amount of placqe on my teeth compared to last cleaning. I have implants and cleaning is an absolute priority - and the dentist is very happy.
I spent $30K on implants - would be a fool not to have the Sonicare from here on!!
Pros: ease of use, all the extra settings like massage etc., easy to pack and take a for a wk w/o add'l chargin
Cons: price but worth it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I really like this product.
I have been a Sonic Care user for over 8 years. This purchase was a replacement for one forgotten at a hotel. I decided to upgrade my model. Only 1 problem with this one...
Where the button is located to change the cleaning modes. After selecting your cleaning mode and you begin brushing, don't hold the handle to firmly as you can easily change the mode. The button needs to be relocated or a change in button design so it is not so easily changed in the middle of your brushing.
Pros: easy to keep clean
Cons: location of button for cleaning modes
I would recommend this to a friend!
