Big and Beautiful

PROS: Absolutely love the stylish look of this stainless steel beauty. It's sleek and slim on the outside and big and beautiful on the inside. The door hinges are hidden and so is the grillwork at the bottom of the fridge. The interior LED lighting is very nice. The shelving layout is great. There is so much room! It’s very quite, too. We only hear it when ice is dropping into the container. The ice/water dispenser on the door is attractive and functional. We’re so glad the sides are a gray crackle vs. black. The top is also gray. This is one of the largest and nicest looking side by side counter depth energy star rated refrigerators out there. We are so happy with our purchase. CONS: The door handles need to be redesigned or installed at the factory. We read reviews on other sites complaining the handles fall off (before we made our purchase). We found out the hard way that the problem exists when the handles are installed incorrectly. The handles need to slide down on the door clamps. In doing so, you must line up the handles with the clamps, then exert a lot of force to pull the handles down on the clamps until you hear a ‘click’ locking them in place. The whole process makes it way too easy to scratch the refrigerator. The ‘professional installers’ who set up our fridge could not get the handles on. When they finally did, I noticed they had scratched the area directly above the handles. BEWARE…do not remove that protective (shipping) plastic film on your stainless steel fridge until after the handles are installed OR put masking tape all around that area while installing the handles as a precaution. Samsung should redesign the handles so they are a ‘set screw type’ like the ones on their French door style refrigerators. There is a video on the Samsung site for installing these handles. Of course, we saw that after our fiasco. Heaven forbid those handles ever need to be removed. In the video, the guy grabs the handles, pulls them up with such force that they leave major scratches and a big dent in the door! SUMMARY: We’ve only had our refrigerator for 2 weeks, but we are very pleased with its looks and how much room there is in both the freezer and fridge. We would highly recommend the counter depth model. We hope this refrigerator will be reliable and keep working for many years. If it does, Samsung has a real winner with the RSG257AARS/XAA.

A Perfect Refrigerator

This counter depth refrigerator was purchased because we are remodeling the kitchen and replaced a standard depth 24 cf unit. Interestingly, despite being the same size in cf, it organizes and holds much more food than our old refrigerator. I must confess that when shopping for new appliances I was originally drawn to this particular model because of the wine rack. Once I moved past the wine rack, I just fell in love with the remainder of the features such as the soda rack, the depth of the door shelves and the placement of the drawers. This is by far the best organized refrigerator on the market. It is exceedingly quiet during operation. The ice maker placed on the freezer door allows for much more storage room in freezer and also gives the option of cubed or crushed ice, a nice feature. The water/ice access shelf on the outside is deep enough to fit my coffee pot and small pans without having to hold them in place. This refrigerator is by far the best I've ever owned. Kudos to the designers of this refrigerator.

We love this refrigerator!

We were going through a major kitchen remodel, the first appliances we looked at were refrigerators. Our previous fridge was over 20 years old. We loved the look and features of this one, but wrestled with the smaller capacity (counter depth). Since there are only 2 of us, we forged ahead. I really wanted the ice maker in the door so we could have more room in the freezer, despite the bad reviews of stuck ice. I also love the gallon storage and 3 drawers for veggies and cold cuts. My husband loved the fact of having crushed or cubed ice and nice, cold water at your fingertips. He also loved the LED lighting and the quietness, compared to our old one! We haven't experienced the handles coming off, and it is a little harder getting lettuce in and out of the drawer, but overall, I'd say we made the right choice! Along with the refrigerator, we also purchased a Samsung electric range and over the hood microwave. Those reviews to follow.

This refrigerator has great features and is price competitive. Unfotunately the icemaker has not been reliable. Now at 7 months after purchase I have had 5 service visits and am the icemaker is still not working. I would not purchae this again. I should have paid more attention to the other reviews that mentioned problems with the icemaker.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive
Cons: icemaker unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I am well into my senior years and have owned many refirgerators in my lifetime. I have owned this counter depth, stainless, side by side refrigerator for 13 months. It is by far, the worst refrigerator I have ever owned! The motor/compressor is quite noisy; it makes an constant electronic pinging noise at 5 to 10 minute intervals; it has a constant rattle inside the box that cannot be located; the stainless steel doors dent very easily; the icemaker is a complete waste of time and the refrigerator is poorly designed. The crisper drawers do not open enough to place a regular size head of lettuce or cabbage in them. Take it from me, this is not the fridge for you!
Cons: Did not meet expectations, noisy, dents easily, poor design, expensive for what you get
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great design, would love the fridge if it cooled.

After spending a significant amount of time trying to pick the right fridge we settled on this one 7 months ago. We have had several Samsung products, including a fridge at our previous home, and have not been disappointed. There are many good design concepts including the sliding shelf, adjustable door bins, and the lighting. I do have an issue with the produce bins, you cannot get a head of cauliflower in one without cutting it in half, but I knew that before I purchased the product so I cannot fault Samsung. There are just some things you forfeit with a counter-depth. The freezer seems small because you cannot fit larger items like a frozen pizza easily, but in reality you can fit more and have it be more organized than in the bottom freezers on others.
We would easily give this fridge 5 stars if it cooled properly. It took us a while to figure out why our milk kept spoiling so quickly. After a month or two we finally got a thermometer and it read 47 degrees while the fridge was set on 36. Samsung has been great about getting the repair team out, but after multiple attempts incuding replacing the control panel, several valves, etc. we have only seen a 3 degree drop in temp. Our repair guy, who we are now quite familiar with, believes it to be a lost cause.
Samsung is supposed to get back with me about replacing the fridge itself. My overall perception of the company has been good. I am interested to see how difficult they make replacing the fridge. As long as they are willing to admit this fridge is a lemon and help us replace it I will continue to buy and recommend Samsung products. You can't expect every product to work perfectly on the line, but you can expect proper customer support when it doesn't.

Great product, read all the reviews before making the decision to buy. Handes are an issue. Installers did not check after install. They fell off. Love the ice annd water controls. Great interior design, except the drawers. If anything restricts the right door from opening all the way you can not fully open the drawers. Buy small heads of lettuce.
