I have previously owned two Sony FALD televisions , 55"XBR8 & 65XBRHX950. This new js9500 blows away the Sony's with it's deep deep black levels. It has great dark shadow detail without lighting up the extremely dark adjacent areas of screen. Of course BluRays are upconverted exceptionally well, but I have never seen cable programs look so great. Detail and color gradiation is top of the world. Can't stop watching for the sheer joy of seeing this screen in action.
At first gray screen splotchiness was evident as well as what seemed to be slow/lazy leds or zones in a couple of locations. Last week I upgraded firmware to version 1444. All splothiness and lazy led issues have disappeared. When my OPPO blu ray player is first turned on the blacks surrounding the OPPO logo are as deep of black as any TV on the market (even OLED)

Couldn't be happier with my new TV. Picture quality and functions are off the charts. Undeniably one of the best televisions on the market today.

Great picture with curved SUHD screen

Have owned the 9500 SUHD for 5 months now, have to say picture is outstanding. DVD's are very good with up-coding, but true 4K content is awesome. Pixilation only evident up very close, not at normal viewing distances. Bought 9500 for superior chip and full screen backlighting, and result is quite a brilliant viewing experience. Have had no mechanical problems at all, worked well out of the box. Smart interface and connectivity is very good, but used an Intel NUC PC with this and prior TV, find it easier to use a keyboard than clicking letter by letter with most of the provided apps. Otherwise very happy with purchase.

Great picture, simplified remote, awesome features!

The 4K picture with the Dolby atmos sound is absolutely amazing. I really wish that the VUDU app displayed 4K with the app.
Other than that, I love how the remote was simplified. The picture quality is so real, it's unreal!

Generally outstanding compared to current tech - may have trouble competing with OLED

I upgraded from a (then) top of the line Samsung 55" LCD TV from 2009.
The good:
This unit is amazing in terms of color, brightness, and contrast. We use multiple streaming services, and the built-in Amazon, Netflix, & Hulu apps work well. The smart remote is quite easy to use. The curved screen seems to elicit love/hate from many people, but it works brilliantly in a corner-mounted application.
The bad:
This should not be surprising, but this is a beast to install on a wall mount. You need a substantial mount, and 2-3 people to help heft it in a controlled fashion. I jury-rigged a hoist system which worked well to solo-install, but most people wouldn't bother.
The future will be interesting as OLED drops in price. Even with the advanced LED backlight array in this television, bright-on-dark does show the regional backlighting on screen.
The verdict:
Until OLED makes up ground in terms of price and brightness, for the price and the size, this is a winner

Excellant Picture!!!

I replaced my Panasonic VT50 (2012 Winner of Value Electronics TV Shootout) with this TV. The picture of this TV is amazing. This TV easily rivals the black levels of my Panasonic Plasma and any LG OLED that I've seen. I would recommend (and already have) this TV to anyone looking for an amazing picture quality! Thanks, Samsung!
