great smaller coffeemaker

Wanted a small compact coffeemaker to pit on counter. Five cups but equiv to seven cups from our previous coffeemaker. So simple to use, fast brewing and keeps coffee hot.

There is a lot to like about this coffee pot,but

This little coffee pot has a lot to like , but when it arrived it had a funny, plasticky smell that tainted the first cups of coffee. Then I brewed a full pot of baking soda and water. That fixed the problem. Now it works very well with no funky taste or smell.

Carafe broke after only being used 4 times. I was rising it out and as I was drying the inside, the carafe broke. Cheap! guess you get what you pay for!

There are a number of negative reviews on this site, but mine won't be another. I've bought this coffee maker twice, the second time only because I broke the carafe and a replacement was only a few dollars cheaper than an entirely new machine. I used the first one for years without a problem and it was still working when I replaced it (due to the broken carafe). I've had this current one for about year now and it too has been without issue, and I feel it makes a great cup of coffee! So, to each his own I guess, but I haven't found anything wrong with this coffee maker!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Water leak

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Hi there, I just bought this coffee maker yesterday but as I was pouring water into the water reservoir to do a cleaning before brewing my first cup of coffee, it ran right through the bottom. I just bought it yesterday!

Black and Decker - 5 Cup Coffee Maker

I was looking to replace my old Mr. Coffee pot but bought the Black and Decker instead because it was a lot cheaper and a mistake that was. I could not pour a cup without it spilling over on my counter so I had to pour it over the sink - AND - it leaked water underneath. I tried making 4 cups, 3 cups and still yet, move the pot and sure enough there was a puddle. Finally got myself another Mr. Coffee and am donating B&D's coffee pot and taking the coffee maker to the dump.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Got my $$ worth

I had this coffee maker for approximately 15 years; and only 1 carafe! Have to buy a new one, however as the on/off button broke. Poor design really, toggling back and forth must have weakened the metal contact so eventually broke. I am a little hesitant though as so many have given negative reviews and I don't even see this listed in reviews of coffee makers at other web sites. I'll have to think about it some more.
